All the glory tends to live at the offensive end of the court, but not to the true hoop heads, coaches, and scouts out there. Below are a handful of players that give Ron Artest a run for his money on defense.
Brown was an absolute menace on defense and I loved every second of it. He did not give his opponents an inch and would stick with them all the way down the floor. I don’t think I saw anyone score on him throughout the showcase. He knew when he needed to switch and he fought his way through picks very effectively. He comes off to me as the type of player who identifies the opposing superstar and says, “I got him”.

I saw Degrate go to the full-court press early in the game and he was locked in defensively for the duration of the showcase. He gave his opponents fits when trying to get to the hoop and picks were of no use against him due to his tenacity on D. He kept a low-defensive stance and had the speed to match anyone on the opposing team. He also displayed an impressive handle on the offensive side of the ball, displaying his abilities as a solid two-way player.

Bardere was locked in on his man from the opening tip, displaying a ferociousness on defense that greatly benefited his team. He was excellent at identifying where the ball was going next and this helped him get steals and create turnovers for the opposing team. He has great court vision all around and a keen awareness that not many players possess. He displayed this through his defense and when looking up the floor for an outlet after a rebound. He threw one of the few successful full-court passes I saw on the day and it was beautiful.

Hunt is a marksman when it comes to identifying opportunities to steal the ball. Keeps it clean, too – didn’t see him get called for a swipe foul once. If you get lazy with the ball for a second against him, you might as well hand it over. Once he created a turnover, he’d use his speed to get up the floor for a quick transition bucket or dish it to an open teammate for the easy lay-in or uncontested jumper. Great basketball IQ and has the anticipation to predict where the ball is going next. Keep the rock safe around this player!

Cain can fly. Make sure you’re a good distance away from him before putting up that jumper because he’ll send it back to the rafters. His hustle on defense was unmatched on the floor and he created countless turnovers for the opposing team with his length and impeccable timing. He doesn’t fall for pump fakes and he’s an absolute monster on the boards. Though I didn’t see him dunk myself, I’ve heard he can put on quite a show on the offensive end of the floor as well.
