LONG BEACH — The annual Ron Massey Memorial Fall Hoops Classic is one of the must-stop events on the preseason high school basketball scene. Dinos Trigonis and his Pangos brand brought together many of the regions best teams – and players – for a combination of showcase games and the loaded Challenge of Champions bracket. In this piece we detail the under-the-radar players who had good performances.

Baron Bellamy, 2024, Campbell Hall

Bellamy is an active and high motor wing who gave Campbell Hall a great burst of energy without needing a lot of touches. The 6-foot-5 wing effectively guarded multiple positions, ran the floor and finished in transition and made timely off-ball cuts and screens to free a teammate for an open look. Bellamy does all of the little things that don't show up in a box score but impact winning.

Dayvon Gates, 2024, St. Pius X-St. Matthias

Gates is the perfect complementary player to the highly-recruited duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1502771' first='Tyrone' last='Riley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1630631' first='Douglas' last='Langford'] because of the fact that he plays well without the ball in his hands but can get himself a bucket when needed. Gates defended the perimeter at a high level, rebounded out of his area and spaced the floor well when running in transition. I liked Gates' burst of speed in half-court offense and willingness to mix it up on the offensive boards.

[player_tooltip player_id='2131806' first='Gavin' last='Dean-Moss'], 2026, St. John Bosco

Dean-Moss might only see spot-minutes on the varsity level this season but will be a point guard to watch during his junior and senior seasons. The 6-foot lefty is smart, quick, crafty and brings a pass-first mindset to the floor. The sophomore is an automatic paint touch in transition or half-court offense and is always looking for a shooter to kick to.

[player_tooltip player_id='1502883' first='Jonathan' last='Moxie'], 2024, Santa Margarita

Moxie had a strong spring and summer play with Los Angeles Elite on the club circuit and one of Orange County's best-kept secrets at the lead guard position won't be a sleeper much longer. The 6-foot-1 signal caller has a really nice combination of speed and strength, has improved his perimeter jump shot, and is an active and physical on-ball defender who competes every possession.

Liam Gray, 2025, Los Alamitos

Gray is a really good fit within the Los Alamitos offensive and defensive systems because of his high basketball IQ, great motor and willingness to push the pace in transition and advance the ball to get into early offense. Gray has the ball handling ability and change of speeds to get into the lane where he's great at recognizing where the help is coming from and dishing to an open teammate or finishing a layup himself.
