Wheeler led by example with his ability to knock down shots at range and make crafty finishes around the rim with his quickness. He’s a name that’s quietly grown on the PH stage over the past few months of evaluations and really stepped up his game to lead Team 8 at the Top 250 Expo. He’s got a confidence that’s hard to find in most guards and showed he could score in a variety of ways with the ball in his hands. As he learns to find ways to keep others involved just as much as his ability to score, look for DII and DIII programs to come his way. He’ll be at Atkins High this year under new head coach Kishon Bishop.
Highlights
Hunter was an active two-way presence for Team 8 as he shored up their frontcourt and backcourt with his versatility at 6-foot-4. He held his own as their primary defender, utilizing his length and athleticism to make things difficult for opposing offenses. Defensively, he showed off his strong frame and ability to battle on the interior with his length. He’s a name for DII and DIII programs to keep an eye on at Panther Creek High this season as he should play a vital role for their squad in 2023-24.
Upchurch was an impressive wing-forward prospect for Team 8 who showcased his ability to use his length in the painted area and act as a shot maker on the wing. He used his size to battle on the boards and fill the void in their undersize frontcourt while still maintaining his presence on the wing offensively as a facilitator and shooter. As he continues to build his confidence, look for his name to grow out of Chapel Hill High in NC’s 2026 class.

Tullock was a versatile prospect who utilized his long wingspan at 6-foot-2 to operate inside and out. He wasn’t afraid to match up against bigger opponents to defend with presence and did a good job of rebounding on both ends as it was a huge need for Team 8 given their lack of size. He didn’t pout or hang his head, just got his nose dirty in the paint on defense and showed he could step out on the wing and knock down shots for his squad. He’s a name out of Volunteer High in Tennessee to keep an eye on in the 2026 class.
Hayward was a confident combo guard prospect who didn’t hesitate to showcase what he could do with Team 8. He showed he wasn’t afraid to knock down shots on the perimeter and get to the paint to make crafty finishes to show off his abilities on the floor all throughout in the backcourt. He’s a young name who stood out in NC’s 2026 class out of Tabernacle Christian in the Monroe area.
Walters was an impressive shooter in the Team 8 backcourt throughout the Top 250 Expo. He looked to constantly find openings to utilize his shot for his teammates, moving well without the ball to knock down shots on the perimeter. As he finds his confidence and finds consistency getting his feet under him, he’s a name to keep an eye on out of Myers Park High in NC’s 2026 class.
Hammad was an interesting guard prospect for Team 8 at the Top 250 Expo. He showed he could operate off the ball at the combo guard spot with a knack for cleaning up the glass and finishing around the painted area. As he finds his confidence handling the ball, look for his status to grow in the state. He’ll be a young name in NC’s 2025 class to keep an eye on this season with J.M. Robinson High as he looks to make an impact on the varsity stage.
