We are in the middle of September, a month that routinely consists of a ton of recruiting news as rising junior and seniors take visits. For the rising senior class, some prospects have already announced where they plan to attend next fall. I'll break down some of the happenings on the mid-September recruiting report here.

One of our top prospects in the 2024 MD/DC rankings in Bullis/New World wing [player_tooltip player_id='1164818' first='Caden' last='Diggs'] is reopening his recruitment. Diggs was originally planned to announce his decision today, but earlier in the week decided to take more time to not only reflect on the programs involved, but also allow others to get into the mix. Diggs had taken officials to Iowa (June) and Old Dominion (August), but others such as American, George Mason, East Carolina Seton Hall and St. Joe's among others had been involved. Diggs is a 6-foot-7 wing with athleticism, versatility and potential to develop into a consistent contributor as time progresses. Look for Diggs to play with a very determined mindset to set the tone this season for Bullis, who should be one of the top teams in the DMV once again.

Caputo and company continue their local success

George Washington head coach Chris Caputo has always been a recruiting presence in the DMV even when he was an assistant coach at Miami and prior. He continues to be a force as he adds 2024 Gwynn Park/New World guard [player_tooltip player_id='1127311' first='Ty' last='Bevins'] after his commitment earlier this month. Bevins is nearing 6-foot-6, young for his grade and has the versatile skill set from the guard slot that is translatable to the college game.

Boston commits

Diggs' teammate, 2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1225255' first='Tyler' last='Boston'], announced his commitment to Holy Cross and head coach Dave Paulsen. Boston is a great get for the Crusaders as he'll bring the intangibles that every coach needs in their floor general. The 5-foot-11 guard understands how to control pace, create for others and take advantage of openings for himself when the opportunities present themselves. Furthermore, Boston is an efficient on-ball defender who makes life hard for opposing point guards. Boston chose Holy Cross over Fairfield, Fordham, North Texas, UNC-Greensboro and Penn.

Chester is off the board

2024 Rock Creek Christian/District BC combo guard [player_tooltip player_id='1259627' first='Machi' last='Chester'] announced his commitment to West Liberty, one of the top Division II programs in the country. Chester is a 6-foot-3 guard that brings a college-ready frame, ability to create for himself and versatility to guard either backcourt position defensively. The Hilltoppers have a guard that can help them stay atop the rankings as they have in recent years with Chester.

Thomas' big official

2024 DeMatha/[program_tooltip program_id='2078457' first='Team' last='Durant'] forward [player_tooltip player_id='1370514' first='Malcolm' last='Thomas'] begins his official visit to Villanova today. The 6-foot-8 southpaw forward used the DMV Live stage as a springboard for his recruitment in the high major ranks. Thomas recently completed an official visit to Vanderbilt and Villanova head coach Kyle Neptune and staff will look to impress the son of former NBA veteran, Etan Thomas, during his time with the blue-blood program.

Sidwell duo seeing campuses this weekend

The 2025 Sidwell Friends duo of [player_tooltip player_id='1225257' first='Acaden' last='Lewis'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1370500' first='Jalen' last='Rougier-Roane'] will be taking an unofficial to Maryland this evening for the football game against Virginia, a source told Prep Hoops. Lewis will then reportedly have an unofficial tomorrow at Virginia as Tony Bennett and staff continue to pay close attention to the dynamic 6-foot-2 southpaw lead guard.
