After a few years away it has returned and he has included a showcase for all high school grades. For its return they hosted the Showcase at the Wintrust Sportsplex. Here were the standouts from this year’s event.

– Christ the King 6’6
The physically imposing big man went to work in the top 20 game. CJ started playing some point foward before going inside and bullying any defender who felt they could challenge him. When on the perimeter he made a couple of threes which got his teammates up and cheering. His consistency earned him camp MVP award by Evan Turner himself.

Jr. – Hansberry 6’7
Brooks was more of a Swiss army knife on Saturday morning. As usual he excels in these open court style basketball games. It always helps with his size when you can grab rebounds push the rock on fastbreaks and make guard like decisions. Al does it all, scores out of the post, makes pinpoint passes to the perimeter, and finishes in the paint. On defense he blocks shots, grabbed a handful of the rebounds, and also got several steals in the open court. Brooks Jr was a close second for the MVP award after his strong performance in the top 20 game.
Dwayne Flowers – Prosser 6’3
I’ve heard so much about Flowers coming into the camp and after my first impression I walked away very impressed. Dwayne has a strong athletic build with game to match. Flowers is a rugged guard who gets in the lane repeatedly off the bounce. He is almost unstoppable when he gets enough momentum towards the rim. His agility helps him finish well on either side of the rim. His jump shot looked good from mid-range and I didn’t see much of him running to the three point line. His activity on defense helped change the momentum in the first game. Flowers was selected to play in the top 20 game and It’s safe to say that he maybe one of the better unknown players in the state. I look forward on future evaluation him during the season.

Woo is another player who played well throughout the day. Making it to the top 20 game off pure hard work and playmaking. It’s seemed like anytime I looked over at Woo court he was getting a hustle steal just by playing the game with full maximum effort. Rykan already has a reputation as a superb distributor but his IQ to get to open spots and hit threes with consistency was the eye opener for me. Woo is starting to become a favorite of mine because he doesn’t take any plays off.
Max Johnson

– OPRF 6’0
Johnson had several stretches in the Top 20 game where he took over with his speed and uncanny athleticism when getting in the lane. He set the tone with his defense picking pockets and running it into layups. Max played at a frantic pace that sped opposing ball handlers up and made them make bad decisions. This upcoming season look for him to have big scoring nights for Oak Park.
Other Standouts and Notables
Samuel Hirsch

Hirsch had terrific shooting performance. Made shots from all three levels. He shot it very well from three on the day. For a bigger guard he rebounds like a forward at times.

Slick scoring guard who shot the ball well from three and looked really good at getting to the cup in crowded spaces. Hit the game winning shot in the first game of the day for his team. Another player who should have some big nights.
Jaylen James

– Farragut 6’6
Jaylen looked good contesting shots at the rim in the top 20 game. He challenged several players on fast break plays resulting in no points against himself. James is still an improving post player who uses his leaping ability to help him scores off most plays.
Zion Young

I left the gym very impressed with Young. Skilled big man who scores well in the post. Using solid footwork and good touch around the rim. He’s a thicker bodied forward who crashes the boards hard rebounding anything in his area. Zion showed later in his second game that he has a faceup game as well. Shooting with a soft touch on the baseline and later extending his shot out to the three. Zion is a prospect to keep and eye on down the line.
Chayse Turner

Turner was the first player I saw as I walked into the gym spiking a dunk through the rim. Chase is skilled wing that can score from all the levels another prospect who uses his athleticism the right way. He seems to be recovering well from his injury earlier this summer.
Ikee Brooks

The quick guard got several layups in transition using his speed to beat defenses down the court before they set up. Ikee is tough to stay in front of when the games are up and down. And the Showcase was just the place for him to display his talents.
