Continue ReadingSchools are back in session for the fall which means the basketball season is right around the corner. Over the course of the last two weeks, there has been plenty of news on the recruiting trail and especially in the local transfer portal that has the local scene buzzing. In this early September DMV report, I’ll highlight some of the announcements and moves that have taken place.
Let’s go portaling
One of the top national prospects in the 2025 class, Tyler Jackson Tyler Jackson 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2025 #40 Nation MD , officially signed and transferred to Overtime Elite from St. Frances Academy. The 6-foot-2 combo guard is one of the best natural scorers that you’ll find at his position and after a busy spring/summer of winning the UAA 16U championship with Team Thrill , Jackson decided to take his talents to Atlanta where he’ll join other DMV prospects such as 2024 Daquan Davis Daquan Davis 6'1" | PG Overtime Elite (GA) | 2024 #119 Nation GA (Providence) and 2026 Adam Oummidoch.
St. Frances didn’t take long in attempting to fill the void left by Jackson’s departure as they welcomed 2024 Josiah Legree Josiah Legree 5'11" | PG St. Frances | 2024 State MD to the fold. Legree helped Parkville to a Class 4A state title as a junior and hasn’t looked back since. The 6-foot lead guard is a dynamic playmaker and scorer who has boosted his stock quite a bit since the June scholastic live period. He’ll be one of the very talented guards that the Panthers feature this season.
Shabach Christian Academy has spent the last week or two announcing their roster for the upcoming season that features a slew of transfers. The Eagles lost a number of seniors from last year’s roster due to graduation, but head coach Taj Hawkins has solidified another solid group headlined by 2026 guard Nieko Mundey. Mundey spent his freshman season at Good Counsel where he established himself as a crafty, tough-nosed guard with ability to score in bunches. Throughout the spring/summer with New World, he flashes improvements as a creator for others while keeping his foot on the gas as a guy who could will his team to a win with his bucket-getting prowess. Other new faces for the Eagles who have a chance to make an impact include 2024 Aiden Price Aiden Price 6'3" | PG Shabach Christian Academy | 2024 MD , 2024 Dorian Hall, 2024 Rony Hogarth, 2024 Jacob Wimbush and 2025 Geronimo Clark.
Mt. Zion Prep Academy was faced with bringing in some new talent this season after Logan Suber Logan Suber 6'0" | PG Mt. Zion | 2024 MD reclassed to 2023 this summer and committed to Lipscomb. Also 2025 Bobby Montgomery Bobby Montgomery 6'5" | SF Mt. Zion | 2025 State #229 Nation MD will move to the prep team, leaving plenty of production that will need to be replaced. One name that has surfaced is 2026 Khalib Norcome Khalib Norcome 6'5" | SF Mt. Zion | 2026 State MD , a 2026 guard with size at 6-foot-5 and intriguing athleticism. Norcome has all of the tools and will be a quality addition for head coach Quinton Dulic and his staff.
I’ll have my usual breakdowns of the BCL and MIAA conferences this season as preview articles, but one aspect that I’ll be interested in following is how Glenelg Country utilzies their duo of bigs in 2025 Deng Jok and 2027 Akol Nyok Akol Nyok 7'0" | C Glenelg Country | 2027 State MD . While Jok has been a done deal for Glenelg Country for a few weeks, it was recently made official that Nyok would also join him. Each prospect hovers around the 7-foot mark and I was able to watch both a decent amount with Global Squad this spring/summer. The two bring extremely impressive length that should deter many from easy looks around the basket. Both are far from finished products, but project to be prospects to monitor closely.

2024 Bullis and Team Thrill point guard Tyler Boston Tyler Boston 5'10" | PG Bullis | 2024 State #291 Nation MD is closing in on a decision date after a flurry of visits. He will announce his next destination on Wednesday and will decide between Fairfield, Fordham, Holy Cross, North Texas, UNCG and Penn. Boston ranks as the No. 14 overall prospect and the No. 1 point guard in the 2024 MD/DC rankings.
2024 Gwynn Park and New World guard Ty Bevins Ty Bevins 6'5" | SG Gwynn Park | 2024 State #157 Nation MD will announce his college decision this Friday. The 6-foot-5 combo guard boasts an intriguing skill set and plenty of room for growth as Bevins is young for his grade. Bevins has narrowed his list to American, George Mason, George Washington, Iona and Temple. Bevins is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2024MD/DC rankings, but should receive a boost in the update.
