Hernandez made the most of the offseason playing with SAHQ, solidifying himself as one of the two-way players in his class and one of my favorites for 4A Breakout Player of the Year. He’s extremely consistent and dependable on both ends of the floor, and has an incredible motor which allows him to stay aggressive during long stretches in games. Hernandez is also very strong for his frame, and is able to use his body to attack the basket and to keep players out of the paint. He’ll be a key piece of Highland’s success moving forward and will the catalyst for their efforts next season.
Nojus Zalenekas Nojus Zalenekas 6'0" | PG Menaul | 2025 State NM – Guard – Menaul
Zalenekas moved to Albuquerque from England and has made the most of his opportunity. He’s one of the best shot-creators in his class with fantastic touch around the rim and a quick pull-up jumper he can fire off at any time off the dribble. Zalenekas is a true point guard who has the patience and ball-handling to run an offense, showcasing this all of last season with the Panthers. With teammate Ugnius Jasevicius Ugnius Jasevicius 6'5" | SF Menaul | 2024 State NM , Zalenekas is part of one of the best point guard-big man duos in the state and will put the Panthers in a prime position to make it far in 2A.
Blake Wilson – Guard – Volcano Vista
Wilson is in prime position to have a breakout season for the Hawks this year. With all the new openings on their varsity roster, Wilson is the perfect fit for the reigning 5A champs. He’s a knockdown shooter who has evolved his game to score at all levels. Wilson is dangerous from not only the three point line but from mid-range as well, a rare skill for high school players nowadays, and one he uses to his advantage. The Hawks lose some key bench depth this season, and Wilson should fit right in with them as they chase a 3rd straight state title.
Brayden Peters Brayden Peters 6'4" | SF Cibola | 2025 State NM – Forward – Cibola
Peters was limited in his varsity playing time this past year, however he showed enough flashes of potential to make me believe that he could have a big season. He’s grown since his freshman year, sprouting up to 6’4″, and has expanded his game to all areas of the floor for the Cougars. Peters has greatly improved his versatility over the offseason, able to guard all positions and utilize his length to his advantage. With Cibola losing some key front court players, Peters will fill right in and make a name for himself with Cibola.
Jeffrey Stuteville Jeffrey Stuteville 6'5" | PF Magdalena | 2025 State NM – Forward – Magdalena
Stuteville has quietly become one of the best rebounders in the state with Magdalena, ranking #3 in 1A for RPG, and Top 25 in the State. He was a key contributor for the Steers in their 2A championship run, utilizing his 6’5″ frame to rule the paint and establish his dominance around the rim. He’ll be in prime position to breakout this year with Magdalena losing two key starters, and Stuteville will have every opportunity to become one of the premiere centers in the state.
