The event featured high level competition and great games, as well as prospects for colleges of all levels moving forward.
Here’s a look at part 1 of some of the top 2024 performers at the event.
Kris Tiller Kris Tiller 6'0" | PG Glen Allen | 2024 State VA | 6’0” PG | Glen Allen
Tiller opened up the Team Camp with a bang as he went for 32 points in a double overtime loss to a very tough Mt. Zion team, and while Glen Allen went 0-2 against tough competition they have one of the elite scorers in the Richmond area in Tiller. He showed the ability to run the pick-and-roll and get to spots off the bounce where he made contested and tough shots, he was slippery in the lane showing the ability to draw contact and finish through it and when he got it going he was almost impossible to stop even with double teams and help defense.
Owen Gray Owen Gray 6'10" | C Steward | 2024 State VA | 6’8” C | Steward
Gray has been a standout for Steward over the past few years and he had a big showing putting up double-double numbers for a Steward team that should compete against the best of the best this season. At 6’8” Gray is a big time athlete who runs the floor and plays above the rim effortlessly in transition and in the half court, he showed good touch out to the perimeter and he rebounded and protected the rim on drives as well.
Blake Neal Blake Neal 6'6" | PF St. Stephen's & St. Agnes | 2024 State VA | 6’5” WF | St. Stephen’s St. Agnes
Neal has quietly been a very productive piece for this SSSAS team that has seen a great turn around over the past few years, and both the team and Neal were impressive with two good wins over a talented CBG Elite team and a John Marshall team that will be nationally ranked again. Neal brought great energy to his group as he played with a good motor and made plays on both ends of the floor, he ran the floor hard and got opportunities in transition, he made open shots from deep and he did all the dirty work to help his team win.
Damon Thompson Damon Thompson 6'0" | PG John Marshall | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | John Marshall
The recent JMU commit put on a show for JM as he made plays consistently off the bounce and put up big numbers for his talented JM team leading the way for them in a number of different ways. He’s shifty off the bounce with the ability to change speeds and directions to get in the paint where he’s a good finisher and can make plays for others, he can create space off the bounce to get his shot off and he got to the line a lot for easy points as well.
Dakota Sellers Dakota Sellers 6'4" | SG Carmel | 2024 State VA | 6’4” WG | Carmel School
Sellers was a standout at John Paul the Great the last few years, and he made a big splash in his first event with his new team as he was productive in a number of different ways and also made some very impressive athletic plays on both ends of the floor. The 6’4” wing gets downhill aggressively and has a ton of explosion as a finisher above the rim as he brought the house down quite a few times, he rebounded and defended at a high level while playing multiple positions and he showed the ability to catch and shoot from deep too.
Owen Pottenburgh Owen Pottenburgh 6'8" | C Hayfield Secondary | 2024 State VA | 6’8” C | Hayfield
While it’s a new look for this Hayfield team that has won back-to-back state Class 6 State Championships, they didn’t miss a beat as they had convincing wins over good LC Bird and Steward School teams and Pottenburgh did a great job as the senior leader and their only real post presence. While Hayfield did a lot of damage from deep they threw it inside to him often where he showed his ability to work with his back to the basket, he kicked out of double teams well, finished through contact in the paint and was big as a defender and rebounder on both ends too.
