The event has become one of the top showcases in Southern California for the incoming freshman class. This season it’s the class of 2027. I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at some of the top scorers I saw.
1. Jaden Berry
Berry was one of the best bucket getters I saw. He was one of the most comfortable creating his own shot in the halfcourt. He has good footwork on his jumper and hit defenders with a little fadeaway shot. With the ball in his hands dribbling, he accelerates and attacks downhill and is aggressive in transition. He gets to the rim consistently, can finish over bigger defenders and can draw contact.
2. Johnny Thyfault
Thyfault was just a good all-around player doing everything on the court but he also had a knack for scoring. He got scoring opportunities by moving off ball and rolling after setting the screen. He also did a good job hitting the offensive glass and getting second chance shots. He made good cuts to the basket and was always ready to catch a pass. He could draw contact at the basket with his aggressive style.
3. Omari Cuffe
Cuffe was one of the players most comfortable with the ball in his hands and shooting jumpers in the halfcourt. He’s athletic and long and was able to get good elevation on his jumper over the defense. Off the screen, he was solid attacking the switch, using his foot speed and accelerating to the basket. Good handles for a wing. He gets up at the basket and is looking to finish strong. Partial to the pull-up jumper.
4 Cole Holden
Holden was another solid scoring wing. Watching him play, he was one of the most consistent at being able to attack his defender off the dribble. He’s comfortable being a primary scoring option. A wing with handles. One thing in particular that he was able to do was draw the defense and pass back out, seeing open teammates.
