On Sunday afternoon and evening at Fishers High School nearly 200 of the states best Class of 2027 prospects came to display their skills in front of many of the most influential people in Indiana High School Basketball. This event is the premier way to get “on the radar” prior to your high school career. Over the next week or so it will become clear why we always say “nobody does content and event coverage like Prep Hoops Indiana.” Before diving into team-by-team evaluations of EVERY prospect in attendance, it felt fitting to quickly highlight some of the top performers from the 2023 Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
Jeremiah Bellamy (North Central H.S. 2027) – Bellamy absolutely dominated the game I watched on Sunday evening and probably finished with one of the highest individual point totals at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. The physical left-handed wing is just so strong with the ball and absorbs contact on the way to the rim. Then, when he is in the paint, he has the size to finish at the rim. He put on a clinic on Sunday and should make an impact at the varsity level for North Central this winter.
Derrick Cross Jr. (Bloomington H.S. North 2027) – I had the opportunity to watch this prospect in the very first round of games on Sunday afternoon and he certainly got things started with a bang. Cross Jr. connected on four three-pointers in the contest showing off his fluid ball handling skills and smooth outside stroke. He is shifty with the ball, creates separation as a ball handler, and can routinely finish at the rim. Proved himself as one of the better offensive players at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
Cash Daniels (Cathedral H.S. 2027) – One of the more dynamic playmakers in the Class of 2027, Daniels had his quick burst and ballhandling ability on full display at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. Daniels has an incredibly tight handle that he uses to either create room for a jump shot from deep or to beat his man to the rim. He is a creative finisher at the end of his drives and showed the ability to score it from all areas of the floor.
Jason Gardner Jr. Jason Gardner Jr. 5'11" | PG Fishers | 2027 State IN (Fishers H.S. 2027) – Gardner Jr. has truly elite quickness from end to end. When he turns on the jets there is simply no keeping up with him as he gets downhill and attacks the rim off of the dribble. That explosiveness is likely going to translate to the Fishers backcourt sooner rather than later as he looked to be one of the better guards in the gym on Sunday at the Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase.
Ketron Paschall (Fort Wayne Snider H.S. 2027) – Paschall had some of the most impressive physical tools of any of the prospects at Sunday’s Prep Hoops Indiana Freshman Showcase. He is 6’3” on the wing with elite strength for his age and a real willingness to play through contact. The big wing isn’t just strong though, he also displayed some crafty passing ability hitting the roll man and going high-low multiple times. His ability to be a playmaker on the perimeter at his size is very impressive.
Cooper Zachary (Fishers H.S. 2027) – There aren’t many freshmen that enter their high school career as well-known as Zachery will. He has the pedigree with a pair of Indiana All-Stars in his family tree, a large social media following, and varsity experience from the summer at Fishers. Zachary is a smaller guard but doesn’t let that slow him down for one second. He is an elite on-ball defender, elite ballhandler, and is absolutely one of the best basketball players in the Class of 2027.
