This is a great chance for incoming freshman in the class of 2027 to get on our radar before their first year of high school basketball. We will have wall to wall coverage of the event. Here is a breakdown of the prospects that stood out on a pair of teams in PHI Freshman Showcase: Scotty B’s Team 3 and Team 4 Standouts!
Team 3
Ethan Vahl (Thompson Jr High)
One of the youngest players in the event more than proved he is a potential big time prospect down the line with a year of middle school left being a 2028 prospect. Listed at 6’0” he has great length down to his knees and will certainly continue to grow. Showed combo guard skills both as a scorer and passer. Liked his passing feel as he made those around him better with outlet passes, hitting cutters, and making the simple play. Won off the dribble with ease against some legit defenders. Accelerates with past defenders where he regularly finished with floaters or got to the foul line. Active defender that plays with a very high basketball IQ.
Dshaun Bolden (Oswego East)
Bolden caught our attention with his long and lanky frame from his wing spot. Good projectability and looked fluid with the rock in his hands. Quick second jump on the offensive glass. Best play came when he cut a passing lane for a sweet euro step finish. Long term play for sure!
Dillon Pompey (Evanston)
Pompey is a smaller guard at only 5’5” that can really go! He was the master of the soft touch finishing game consistently putting in runners and floaters on the regular. Quick off the dribble and won on straight line takes consistently. Active hands as a help defender.
Team 4
Devin Cleveland (Kenwood)
Cleveland has star written all over him! One of the top 2027 prospects in the state put on a show when we saw him at the freshman showcase. At 6’1” Cleveland has a long and projectable frame with plus athleticism. He is a silky smooth ball handler that can create off the bounce as well as anyone in the class. Slithers through the defense with such ease. Great crossover moves to go with a plus pull up jump shot that he consistently knocked in from mid-range. Defensively he is effective with his length getting steals and taking them the other way.
Reggie Stevens (St. Laurence)
Stevens popped on our radar over the summer and had another good showing in this setting. The St. Laurence 6’1” combo guard is a plus scorer with a nice frame. Shot it well from three both pulling up and off the catch. Smooth ball handler that can win off the bounce creating in one on one situations for scores at the cup. Has D1 potential down the line on a program loaded with talent!
Jayden Taylor (Perspectives)
Taylor is a 5’9” lead guard from Perspectives that shot it pretty well from distance when we saw him. Good frame with a flame thrower from deep making an array of threes.
Asa Taylor (Homewood Flossmoor)
Taylor stands at 5’7” with tremendous speed in the open floor. Burst with the rock in his hands and often takes it the other way off his defense as he has active hands swiping for several steals. Shifty ball handler that allowed him to consistently get to the cup or the foul line. Was relentless attacking!
Nicholas Schubkegel (Hinsdale Central)
This 6’5” big man has solid size and a nice frame early in the process. The big man is a post that rim runs showing solid mobility getting up and down the floor. Gets on the offensive glass for put backs.
