I wasn’t able to stay for the whole day due to traveling purposes but during the first three competitive games of the Showcase, I was able to see some players that could make a statement this winter on the high school floor. Below are 5 individuals to know before this high school season kicks off in a few months. Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
#626 – Elijah King Elijah King 6'2" | PG South Bend St. Joseph | 2027 IN – 2027 – 6’2 – CG – N/A H.S. – Team Teague AAU
Elijah King Elijah King 6'2" | PG South Bend St. Joseph | 2027 IN made his case for Player Of The Day in his first game of the afternoon on Sunday. King was electric. A player that changed the game on both sides of the floor for his team. King stands at about 6’2 with superior athleticism to most his age. He can handle the ball as a guard and attack smaller/weaker defenders, he can catch and shoot from deep distances, and he can work from the mid post-in whenever need be. High school is going to open a lot of recruiters eyes once they see King this winter. A player with this mixture of size, skill, and athleticism is no joke.
#621 – Derrick Cross Jr Derrick Cross Jr 6'2" | PG Bloomington North | 2027 State IN . – 2027 – 6’2 – PG/SG – Bloomington North H.S. – Team Blaze AAU
Derrick Cross Jr Derrick Cross Jr 6'2" | PG Bloomington North | 2027 State IN is a shifty and crafty playmaker on the floor. In his first contest of the day Cross was doing a little bit of everything. He started the game with a step-back three pointer, then ended up creating more and more off of the dribble as the game went on. It’s hard to stay in front of Cross when he is at full speed, attacking his opponents, that’s for sure. If he starts to equalize which way he attacks a little bit more over the next few years, as he expands his game and physically grows, he is going to be a handful on the high school floor.
#645 – JJ Craig Jr. – 2027 – 6’2 – CG – Warren Central H.S. – ETG 2026 AAU
JJ Craig JJ Craig 6'2" | PG Warren Central | 2027 State IN showed his versatility on Sunday during the Freshman Showcase. Craig Jr has size at 6’2 and a lot of muscle mass to go along with it. The best and most surprising part of his game is the touch he possesses on the basketball. He displayed that he can score with an aggressive move in the post, a soft touch floater once he beats his defender off of the dribble, or a three if the defense sags off of him. In his first game of the day Craig Jr was his teams everything. Scoring at will, defending the other teams biggest and most skilled player, all while trying to help his team to victory. The future is bright with this one. No doubt about it.
#13 – Nash Sigmund Nash Sigmund 5'11" | PG Decatur Central | 2027 IN – 2027 – 5’10 – SG – Decatur Central H.S. – Indiana Elite AAU
When you watch enough basketball you start to see some things that occur over and over again. One of those things is recognizing a player that can flat out hoop, when they may not exactly look like they can at the beginning. An example of this is Nash Sigmund Nash Sigmund 5'11" | PG Decatur Central | 2027 IN . Sigmund is a 5’10 shooting guard with a flamethrower from an arm. This kid can light it up from deep in a hurry and if you over-play him, he will blow by you with an insanely shifty dribble, usually ending in a bucket for himself. Not to mention that Sigmund is very active on defense. Someone who averages multiple steals a game cause of his active hands and knowledge of where the his opponent will be putting the ball on each possession. Remember the name because before long, he is going to be at a school near you, lighting it up.
#605 – Adam Foster Adam Foster 6'0" | SG Benton Central | 2027 IN – 2027 – 6’0 – PG/SG – Benton Central H.S. – CTA AAU
Adam Foster Adam Foster 6'0" | SG Benton Central | 2027 IN isn’t going to blow you away with a flashy move but what he will do is kill you with fundamentals and efficiency. Foster, a 6’0 guard, made a statement early on Sunday during competitive play. He came into the game, made two quick 3 pointers from deep, racked up a few steals and helped his team to victory in the end. Foster is a natural. He has length, smarts, and knowledge of when to-do what out there on the court. If he can get a little stronger, as he grows over the next few seasons, he will turn out to be a tough matchup for most. When you account for the scoring ability he already possesses, what he could become in the future is promising. All he has to do now is stay dedicated and make it happen.
