Each of them has shown they have what it takes to be impact guys in various ways throughout the summer and will be heavily relied upon this winter.
BJ Shannon O’Dea ’24
Shannon is an intense defender who works opposing ballhandlers from end-line to end-line. He has excellent foot speed, quick hands, and a dog mentality to make offensive players work for every inch. And while it’s his defensive acumen that first caught my eye, he does have some grit finishing through traffic inside and can sprinkle in some threes too. He should have a big role for O’Dea this year as a tone-setter on defense and a guy who can share the ballhandling duties in the backcourt.
Ishe Kanhukamwe Ishe Kanhukamwe 5'9" | PG Garfield | 2024 State WA Garfield ’24
The shifty point moves over from Eastside Catholic to play with Garfield this coming season and he will have an immediate impact with his new school. He already showed last season how he’s grown as a shooter and can now use that elite quickness to create shots after stopping on a dime and sink them. Over the summer he looked much more consistent from 3-point range and seems to be looking for his shots more so than last season. He’ll be another tone-setter at the top of the defense who can force turnovers on the ball and should have some electric games this season.
Lucas Dickau Lucas Dickau 5'11" | PG Mt Spokane | 2025 State WA Mt Spokane ’25
Dickau has played his role well up to this point as a mostly turnover-free point guard who sets up passing angles, keeps his dribble alive, and works to win loose balls and extra possessions. Heading into this season, Mt Spokane will probably look to him to expand his role, do more attacking with the ball, and look to shoot more. He’s shown a greater willingness to shoot this summer and has the touch to be an efficient player with his shots. He’s still a pass-first guard but he’s looked more aggressive taking shots from deep as well as punishing indecisive defenders in the mid-range with jumpers and floaters.
Hudson Floyd Hudson Floyd 5'11" | PG Gonzaga Prep | 2025 State WA Gonzaga Prep ’25
Floyd is the type of player who doesn’t care who he’s playing against, he’s going to go out and compete. He’s a guy that doesn’t seem to get lost in his mistakes and is always ready to punch back in close games. He’s been much improved from long-range this summer, so much so, that it’s starting to look like one of the strongest parts of his game. Gonzaga Prep still has a lot of backcourt talent heading into this season but Floyd has all the tools to be an impact player who can pass or shoot.
Jordan Bennett Jordan Bennett 6'0" | PG Emerald Ridge | 2026 State WA Emerald Ridge ’26
Bennett made huge improvements this summer developing not just his game, but the mentality it takes to be a true point guard. He’s a high-level defender that can pick up full-court, all game, but he really started to come on as a guy that can attack gaps off the dribble, stay controlled and either pull up for the mid-range knockdown or burst to the hoop. He has some natural feel passing the ball and making decisions in the half-court, and as he continues to learn what it means to be a point guard he will start to be a guy that surprises a lot of people.
