As we approach the preseason for high school basketball, we will take a look at some different categories of players and those that excel in those roles in different areas of the state. Today, we take a look at some of the top rim rockers in the Richmond metro part of the state.

Hunt is set to have a breakout season at Bird this year, as the 6'4” wing showed flashes last year as a junior and he'll be one of the go-to players with a chance to show off his athleticism and skillset this year. Hunt is a very good shooter and uses that to get defenders to overplay and he gets back door opportunities out of it, he can get out in transition where he plays above the rim easily and he uses his athleticism defensively to lock up and challenge shots too.

Desmon Rose | 6'6” F | John Marshall 2025

Rose is one of the most underrated prospects in the Richmond area, as he's an athletic and versatile forward who can play all over the floor and make plays across the board. The 6'6” forward uses his athleticism to guard multiple positions and make plays defensively, he can handle it and get downhill where he's a good finisher, he gets out in transition for above the rim opportunities and he can hit the glass when he gets a running start too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956064' first='Ibrahim' last='Gati'] | 6'9” PF | Amelia Academy 2025

Gati is a name that will become prevalent in the Richmond area over the next year or so, as he just came to the states and showed flashes this summer of his big time upside moving forward. At 6'9” he's built like a basketball player with long arms and a strong upper body, he's a fluid athlete who moves well both in getting up and down and laterally, he is an effortless leaper who can play above the rim off the vert and he plays with a very good motor too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956076' first='Matt' last='Henderson'] | 6'5” F | Powhatan 2025

It's been a while since Powhatan had a prospect like Henderson, who's a two sport star that is a natural athlete who thrives in transition and makes plays others simply can't. He gets out and gets above the rim effortlessly, he moves well off the ball for back doors and lobs, he can chase down opponents in transition for big blocks and he's physical when he gets downhill to finish through traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782682' first='Latrell' last='Allmond'] | 6'8” PF | John Marshall 2026

Allmond is a man amongst boys and is our #1 recruit in the 2026 class, and one thing he does is consistently play above the rim with authority in many different ways. He's strong enough to clear out space both on post ups and on offensive rebounds and he can explode off the vert to throw it down easily, he runs the floor for opportunities in transition, he can catch lobs on set plays and he can face up and blow by to get to the rim where he never shies away from the chance to catch a body.
