Continue ReadingElite prospects from southeastern Pennsylvania (and beyond) continue the annual ritual of announcing that they will be changing high schools for next year. With the NCAA transfer portal jamming up high school recruiting, we expect the steady stream of talented players switching schools to continue here in August. Many of them will chose to reclass into a later graduation year.
At Prephoops.com we will do our best to track all the player movements and pass that information on to our readers.
Below is the eleventh installment in our Transfer Watch 2023 series.
Ty Burton – 6’1″ / 2024 / Moravian Prep (NC) / Philly Pride UAA / Combo Guard: Theformer two-time PIAA 5A All-State selection (Lampeter-Stroudsburg) attended IMG Academy (FL) during his junior season. Now, Burton will take his talents to Moravian Prep for his senior year. Burton is a tenacious, quick, and versatile guard who can score at all three levels. This past season he averaged 13 points, 4.5 assists and 3 rebounds per contest while connecting on 43% of his 3PAs. Burton’s marquee performance from 2022-23 was the game where he recorded 25 points and 7 dimes. He holds an offer from Manhattan.
Jamal Hicks Jr Jamal Hicks Jr 6'2" | CG William Penn Charter | 2025 State PA – 6’1″ / 2025 / Penn Charter / Philly Pride 302 / Combo Guard: In 2022-23 Hicks received significant minutes for Bonner & Prendergast and started nine games for the Friars. Hicks contributed 5 points and 2 assists per contest during his junior year. Penn Charter is adding a crafty backcourt prospect who excels at scoring off the dribble and at times can be dynamic in transition. Plus, Hicks will sprinkle in the occasional 3-ball. In addition to transferring, Hicks will reclass into the 2025 graduate year.
Devon Nelson – 6’3″ / 2025 / Bonner & Prendergast / PA Hoops Academy / Shooting Guard: After posting 10 ppg. and garnering 1st Team All-PAC (Frontier Div.) honors for Upper Merion last season, Nelson has transferred to Bonner & Prendergast. Nelson’s specialty is using his elusive dribbling skills to create opportunities for himself and teammates. He is a filthy change of pace guard who frequently uses a hesitation move to throw defenders off balance. Nelson can score the at the rim with either hand. He owns a solid floater game too.
Trey O’Neil Trey O’Neil 6'1" | CG Hill School | 2024 PA – 6’1” / 2024 / IMG Academy / Shoreshots Rio / Combo Guard: Back in January we watched O’Neil splash 7 threes (30 pts. total) in a game for Hill School. During the spring and summer circuits he continued to impress with his elite 3-point shooting abilities. He owns a quick trigger, and his range extends to NBA distance. But O’Neil is not a one-dimensional player. He will execute a head fake and then put the ball on the deck to get to the cup for a lay-in. O’Neil can also score in transition. He holds an offer from University of New Hampshire.
Niu “Nemo” Qisheng – 6’6” / 2027 / Phelps School / Shoreshots Rio / Combo Guard: Qishengcomes to the Phelps School from China. He is a long and athletic prospect with surprisingly tight handles. Qisheng possesses a textbook jump shot that has 3-point range. He is physical enough to compete on the offensive glass for second chance points too.
