For this series of articles, I will be taking a look into each conference to see where some seniors are headed to play. These might not be everyone playing at the next level, these are guys who have announced it or that I’ve been able to find. Some of these players have yet to finalize their decision. There are tons of more players who will be playing at the next level too within the 2023 class.
Parker Gerrits – Olympia HS
Parker has been a top 5 player within his class for quite sometime. He sets himself above everyone with his abilities to knock down all shots consistently, control the pace of the game, and easily set up his teammates for easy buckets. He has played big roles for Olympia, leading them into the state tournament a couple times. Now Gerrits is taking his talents to play for the Washington State Cougars.
Tyce Paulsen – Curtis HS
Tyce has been a fantastic facilitator, helping lead Curtis deep into the state tournament a couple times, even winning the state title. He controls the pace of the game and plays very solid defense. His basketball IQ is very high as he knows how to pick apart teams from the very beginning. He will be attending Point Loma next season, joining his brother who is transferring to the school as well.
Andreas Engholm – Olympia HS
Andreas is a big man who contributed in any ways on the court. He protects the paint on the defensive end very well and not many players could finish around him. He is patient on the offensive side, allowing the game to come to him. Engholm is dominant on the glass, grabbing many rebounds every single game over opposing players. He hasn’t officially announced where he is going, but he holds offers from Western Washington University and University of Puget Sound.
Cinque Maxwell – Curtis HS
Cinque is a gritty guard who will do whatever it takes to help his team win. He does all the little things that players don’t enjoy doing, but Maxwell is all about winning games. He has great speed on the court and defends at a high level. He won the 4x100m relay for the 4A classification for the state of Washington, so he may be attending college to run track but he can definitely play at the college level for basketball if he wanted.
Mason Juergens – Olympia HS
Mason is an athlete who excelled at multiple sports during his time at Olympia. He was a great role player for the team, knocking down shots when needed and always defended at a high level for his squad. He is good enough to play basketball at the next level, but decided football was the best sport for him and has decided to attend Washington State University and play football for the Cougars.
Jaivion McLaughlin – Sumner HS
Jaivion went under the radar quite a bit during his time in high school, but he is a very talented player on the court. Sumner was stacked until his senior year and when it was his time, he took advantage of it and displayed his abilities on the court. He’s very shifty with the ball in his hands and gets to the rim smoothly using his craftiness and speed. He is headed to Evergreen State College to play beyond the high school level.
