Prep Hoops was in the house for both days of on court action. Here we examine it in JT Elite Camp: 2024 Prospects Pt 2!
Tre Johnson (Link Academy, MO)
Johnson is from Texas and will be playing his senior campaign at Link in Missouri. The explosive combo guard was one of the players that was most effective playing with the ball in his hands as both a scorer and facilitator. Sweeping layups and scoop shots at the rim finishing with his athleticism were excellent finishing moves for him. Puts so much pressure on the rim with his creativity and snake dribbles getting to the cup. Also mixes in a very good soft touch finishing package. Pushes it in the open floor and is a quality 15 foot jump shooter. Made some good passes as well especially in the half court setting up others. One of the truly elite players in the rising senior class.
Amier Ali (Dallas, TX)
Ali was one of my favorite players to watch at the event. He is such a high-motor combo forward that impacts winning in a variety of ways. First thing that stands out is how hard he plays and the freakish athleticism as the long and bouncy 6’8” forward brought it on every possession. Especially on the first day he really got it going in the games with his perimeter shot. Ali shot it well from deep, finished out of the dunker spot, and showed positional versatility on both ends.
Donavan Freeman (St. John’s, MD)
Freeman didn’t really stand out during the drills, but when the games started he turned it up a notch! The 6’8” forward from the DMV was throwing down dunk after dunk playing with a high-motor winning off the bounce and showcasing his burst to the rim. Such an explosive athlete as a finisher along with getting up and down the floor with ease. Syracuse commit projects as a four at the next level that will be a very good defender on the backline of that famous 2-3 zone.
Liam McNeely (Montverde, FL)
McNeely is a coveted 6’8” power forward that projects as one of the more skilled posts in the class. His combination of skill, toughness, and shot making is very impressive. Competes on the glass and the defensive end.
Isaiah Evans (North Mecklenburg, NC)
The Duke commit is an elite shot creator that can score from all three levels. Explosion off the bounce, crisp mid-range pull ups, and has range well out to three. Super athletic wing that should be an impactful player from day 1 in Durham.
Cameron Scott (Lexington, SC)
Scott along with the next player were the two vets on the team featuring “The Phenoms” that won game after game at the camp. The silky smooth two guard went off on the second day of camp. Lanky frame with plus athleticism. He shot it at a high level from three and turnaround jumpers out of the mid-post.
Derrion Reid (Grovetown, GA)
Reid is a versatile combo forward that just makes winning plays. He was effective as a rangy athlete that played above the rim, defended, and was a great connector.
