Continue ReadingBrooks is a bigger guard that is very shifty with the basketball. He is good off the catch and shot from the three-point line but loves to come down full speed and pull up for a three-point shot from deep. He understands how to change paces and speeds to keep the defense guessing. He shows great enthusiasm when playing the game and is a vocal leader for his team. He competes on both ends of the floor and understands when to push the basketball up the floor and when to slow it down as well. He is very athletic but relies less on his feel for the game than his athleticism.
Due to his consistent play throughout the tournament he was chosen as our 17u tournament MVP.
Highlights
Gavin Davis
Gavin Davis
Davis is a bigger guard that understands how to get his shot. He does well when he has a coach and shot opportunity and also does just as well with the ball in his hands off the dribble. What I liked about Davis is his ability to accept the challenge and use the same intensity defensively that he uses offensively. During the semifinal game, the other team had a quick guard that was getting to the basket on command. He stepped up and take on the challenge of slowing him down which allowed his team to stay in the game and not get completely blown out. When he misses a few shots, he doesn’t let that get to him and has a short memory to move on to the next play.
Keach is an all-around basketball that plays extremely hard on both ends of the basketball player. He can be caught bringing the ball down one possession and than the next possession moving without the basketball. He was fun to watch throughout the entire weekend because he loves to compete on both ends of the court. In the championship, one guard scored a few buckets on him in a row and his teammate asked him to switch he declined the switch and shut that same guard down for the next three possessions. Throughout the tournament, he averaged almost a triple-double with points, rebounds, and assists.
Hudson is a kid that loves to shoot the pull-up mid-range jump shot. He can play the one through three positions and does very well coming off pick and rolls with being able to see over the defense. His versatility on the defensive side of the ball makes him just as interesting because of his ability to guard multiple positions on the court and be effective. While watching one game I saw him effectively guard three different positions and step up to the challenge with all three of those individuals. He has a very smooth all-around basketball game on both ends of the court and I think he will only get better as time goes on.
Trey’Dez Green
Trey’Dez Green
Green is a big body with a bunch of bunches of talent. Physically he has all the intangibles to be a good basketball player. He is a lefty that can shoot the three off the catch and consistently roams around and gets lobs from his guards as well. A dual sport athlete that plays tight end and wide receiver and it showed throughout the weekend with his ability to not mind physical contact and finish tough plays around the rim with ease. With his athleticism and agility, I can see Green being another rare two-sport athlete at the college level. It will be interesting to see what sport he ends up picking to commit to or if he tries to do both at a high level after his high school athletic career.
Parras is a complete mismatch on the offensive end for just about anybody. When he gets a smaller defender on him he can rise and shoot right over the top of him uncontested and when he gets somebody his size on him he can post them up and operate down low. He is very crafty when with his ball handling and understands how to get to his favorite spots to score the basketball. He is very versatile on the offensive end of the basketball court because he can play the one through four positions.
