I watched the action in the 15U division throughput the weekend. Here are some of my observations from Sunday’s action.
*Arkansas Programs Flex
The two most talented teams in the division were ABC Elite and Legendary Athletes, who were both from the state of Arkansas.
The two teams did not meet in the championship game because they happened to be in the same pool. They met in the first game of Saturday morning with ABC Elite pulling out a 65-62 thriller. ABC Elite went on to win the championship while Legendary Athletes won their three consolation games in dominating fashion.
In the championship game, ABC Elite defeated Pocket City (IN) 57-46. ABC Elite was led by 6’7 forward Derrick Hudson, who was the Prep Hoops Most Valuable Player of the tournament. He scored a team high 17 points while dominating inside with his height and athleticism. He threw down a number of entertaining dunks throughout the weekend.
Hudson had plenty of help in the championship game from some very talented guards. Christian Hill is a smooth 6’3 shooting guard who scored 12 points and drilled a pair of 3-pointers. He’s also a good defender who played the passing lanes well.
Point guard Kinyun Johnson was the straw that stirred the drink for ABC Elite. The 6’1 Johnson is a terrific on-ball defender who can handle the offense and make open 3-pointers. Antwonine Thomas is a 6’2 guard who has a motor that never stopped. He scored 10 points, with all of them coming on slashing drives and transition layups.
The Legendary Athletes squad was appropriately named because they had an impressive collection of athletes in the 6’4 to 6’5 range. They played fast and they put on quite a display of dunking in their three consolation round victories.
I was very impressed with 6’4 Jayden Slaughter, who is a high level athlete who can also handle the ball in the open court. He had some eye-popping swooping dunks as well. Malachi Summons is a muscular 6’4 forward who just pounded the boards at both ends of the court. Kyren Marshall is the third of those explosive 6’4 forwards who did his fair share of scoring, rebounding and dunking inside.
*A Few Other Final Four Standouts
JJ Lowery (Pocket City): The 5’9 guard scored a total of 30 points in the semifinals and championship game. He is a strong bucket getter who owned the mid range area. He could get to his spot and elevate and get his shot over taller defenders. He could really score.
Alex Komorech Alex Komorech 6'5" | PF Marquette | 2026 State MO (Mavericks G Elite): The 6’5 forward from Marquette High had a strong weekend, which included 18 points in his team’s narrow loss to Pocket City in the semifinals. He has a nice finesse game around the basket, but he’s mobile and aggressive enough which makes him a tough cover.
