John was a really, really solid role player for the Thunder last season en route to their 1A championship, and he looks primed to step into a bigger role as a senior. He’s an impressive ball-handler and decision maker for a young big man, seeing the floor at a high level and finding open teammates with great passes. He rebounds really well on both ends of the floor and is a good finisher around the rim who can occasionally stretch the floor.
PF Tate Platte Tate Platte 6'0" | SF Des Moines Christian | 2024 State IA (Des Moines Christian)
Platte is an incredibly tough, physical forward who makes up for his lack of ideal size by being a bully and playing with a non-stop motor. He dominates the glass on both ends of the floor, has the athleticism and quickness to defend on the perimeter or the strength and physicality to defend in the paint, and can score in a number of ways. He’s one of those rare types of players who will impact the game in a major way even when he doesn’t score.
C Tyler Netolicky Tyler Netolicky 6'8" | C Xavier | 2024 State IA (Xavier)
Following key graduations and a major loss to transfer, Netolicky will be the focal point of the Saints offensive attack this season. A mobile 6-8/6-9 big man with good hands, soft touch, and developing footwork, he looks much more comfortable and fluid on his post touches and has become more decisive, knowing what he’s going to do immediately. He now not only has a few go-to moves on the block, but is developing some counter moves to go along with them.
PF John Brown (Van Meter)
Brown is undersized as a traditional big, but he plays much bigger than he is with his strength and physicality. He competes hard on the glass on both ends of the floor, has soft hands, and showed a little bit of confidence in his jumper. If he’s able to consistently add a little bit of range to his game and help space the floor for the Bulldogs, that would be a major boost.
SF Brogan Fuller Brogan Fuller 6'4" | SF Dallas Center-Grimes | 2024 State IA (Dallas Center-Grimes)
A long, lanky 6-3/6-4 wing who does a little bit of everything, Fuller is a really good role player for a Mustangs team that has a number of skilled scoring threats alongside him. He can defend multiple positions, uses his length well on the glass, and runs the floor hard in transition.
PF DJ Vonnahme (Kuemper Catholic)
Like Brown, Vonnahme is undersized for a traditional big man, but he makes up for it with explosive athleticism and strength. He’s a game-changing athlete who can come out of nowhere to block shots, control the glass on both ends of the floor, and finish at a high clip around the rim. His offensive game is a bit limited, but he excels at what he excels at, and doesn’t try to go away from those areas.
PF Jamari Williams (Southeast Polk)
Another big body with great athleticism, Williams impressed on both ends of the floor for the Rams. He has good hands and rebounds well, especially on the defensive end. He showed some ability to stretch the floor, showing confidence in his jumper, as well as the ability to put the ball on the floor and occasionally attack off the bounce. But where he was most impressive was on the defensive end. He drew a tough assignment with Madrid’s star wing scorer Toryn Severson Toryn Severson 6'4" | SG Madrid | 2025 State IA , but he did a great job moving his feet and staying in front of Severson, really making him work hard to score. He can also bump inside and bang against bigger bodies, but his ability to defend on the perimeter is huge.
SF Zahj Collins Zahj Collins 6'5" | SF Roosevelt | 2024 State IA (Roosevelt)
Collins is a good, fluid athlete who can defend multiple positions with his combination of size, length, and athleticism. He showed increased confidence in his jumper, knocking down a pretty 3 off the catch, with a quicker release than he has previously shown. He can create off the dribble for himself and his teammates, and he’ll compete on the glass.
SF Dominic D’Amico (Xavier)
D’Amico had a really good first half in the Saints’ loss to Ankeny on Saturday, knocking down three 3-pointers and playing some solid defense both on and off the ball. He’s a strong, physical wing who moves well without the ball and has a quick release off the catch, and he uses his strength and athleticism to defend multiple positions as well as contribute on the glass.
SF Luke Linde (Winterset)
Linde got overshadowed during the weekend by the outstanding play of the three Wilmes brothers, but he had a really good weekend on both ends of the floor as well. He’s a long, active defender who does a great job getting into passing lanes and turning defense into offense. He’s a good athlete who can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim, and he contributes on the glass on both ends of the floor.
SF Austin Knight (Solon)
Knight is a good athlete with solid size and length that he uses to impact the game defensively. He moves his feet well and uses his length to contest shots. He’s not a big offensive threat, but he provides good value on the defensive end and as a rebounder.
SF Josiah Vos Josiah Vos 6'5" | SF Pella Christian | 2024 State IA (Pella Christian)
In a similar vein to Knight is Vos, a rangy 6-4 wing who also impacts the game in a major way on the defensive end of the floor. He’s a versatile defender who contests shots, moves his feet, and is a vocal leader on that end of the floor. Offensively, he’s improving as a ball-handler and playmaker, putting the ball on the floor and getting to the rim, where he absorbs contact and finishes through it.
