He has proven to be an incredible ballhandler and finisher. He is an above-average shooter and, from his coach's perspective, an underrated passer and rebounder. He is playing with Team Thad on the EYBL circuit this spring/summer and has been focusing on becoming a better lead guard. His prolific scoring is still there, and he shows flashes, but it is his PG IQ development that is growing and making him even more of a threat than he already is.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1398645' first='Desmond' last='Williams']</strong>&nbsp;(6'0/CG/'25)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Desmond is a player Baker will need to step up and be an additional scoring option this upcoming season for the Hornets. He has the ability to be a creator off the bounce, and if he can be another guy putting pressure on the defense with the rock in his hands, it will cause opposing defenses to loosen up their all-out attempts to contain LaBaron. Desmond will have opportunities to provide much-needed scoring for the Hornets. I have said it before, and I will say it again, he is one of the best rebounders in the state, regardless of class. He is very active when establishing position and rebounds the ball at its apex. He proved to be a good rim protector, and Coach Armstrong says that Derrick is expanding his game to the perimeter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>Coaches Corner</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">I spoke with Coach Armstrong and asked him about two players he is interested in seeing how they perform in June, and he mentioned&nbsp;<strong>Lovalle Nelson</strong>&nbsp;(5'10/SG/'24), a streaky shooter who could provide spacing if he can be more consistent. In my opinion, Lovalle, offensively, is the key to Baker making a run to the Final Four. As his coach said, if he can be consistent, especially in the games going down the stretch, watch for Baker to make it to Birmingham. Coach Armstrong is also looking forward to seeing&nbsp;<strong>Ryan Majors</strong>&nbsp;(6'0/SG/'24), a great shooter who could help space the floor along with Lovalle. A third player mentioned by Coach is&nbsp;<strong>Andersen Madyun</strong>&nbsp;(6'7/F/'24), a player spoken highly of when it comes to the Hornets' defensive identity. Anderson has the potential to provide interior defense, which will allow their guards to apply intense pressure on the perimeter.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size">Coach David is clear on what he is looking for throughout June, as he is looking for his team to play really fast and take advantage of their strengths, which are their guard play and their ability to create off the bounce. The defense will also be a priority as he believes his team needs to sure up their play on that end of the floor in order to make a deeper playoff run next season. The coach said he will also use the summer to build confidence in the team's role players.
