<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On June 2nd&nbsp;and 3rd&nbsp;I watched summer league games hosted by Prescott High School.&nbsp; Schools ranging from tiny 1A all the way to sprawling Phoenix 6A schools competed in the cool air of Prescott, AZ.&nbsp; A couple of the standout players are fairly well known in Arizona basketball circles but others have not yet become known outside of Northern Arizona.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1306025' first='Mason' last='Hunt'] of Bradshaw Mountain high school was easily the best player I saw.&nbsp;&nbsp; He is not a volume scorer but can put up points quickly and efficiently and with an ease not usually seen at the high school level.&nbsp; At 6'6 his midrange jumper is virtually un-guardable and his 3-point shooting is deadly.&nbsp; His athleticism and hops allow Mason to score at the rim as well.&nbsp; (My daughter calls him Mason Jump).&nbsp; Mason also can play Point Guard if needed.&nbsp; He has tremendous talent and is a very hard worker in the gym.&nbsp; He also possesses that clutch gene—he hit a game-winning buzzer beating 3 pointer on a fall-away jumper from the right corner.&nbsp; It is just a matter of time before the college offers start arriving for this rising senior.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1817666' first='Stephan' last='Iron Shell'] of 2A powerhouse Arizona Lutheran Academy was the best pure shooter I saw.&nbsp; He shoots the 3 at a very high percentage and with range. His lefty stroke is silky smooth and he can hit the 3 with a hand in his face.&nbsp; If the defense takes away the 3, he can score at the rim with crafty finishes.&nbsp; Although guarded by the best defender,&nbsp; Stephan can still score and does not force shots.&nbsp; </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1490883' first='Luis' last='Guerrero'] of ALA was my favorite player to watch.&nbsp; Luis can impact the game on defense and offense.&nbsp; His quickness is off the charts and he does not allow his 5'9 height and thin frame affect his ability to drive inside and either dish it or score. His handle is tight and creative and he can pass it with the best of them.&nbsp; His finishes (and passes) at the rim are creative and dare I say joyful.&nbsp; Luis uses his quickness and intelligence to play exception on-ball defense.&nbsp; He does not gamble or reach but uses his speed to beat the ball-handler to his spot.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The most improved player I saw was [player_tooltip player_id='1985829' first='Mauricio' last='Holguin'] of Bradshaw Mountain high school.&nbsp; A rising senior, Mauricio's hard work in the gym is really paying off.&nbsp; A very cerebral player he plays the Point Guard spot with confidence and skill.&nbsp; He is an adept passer and has a very good midrange game and can shoot it from 3.&nbsp; He will have a big impact on Bradshaw Mountain in the upcoming season.&nbsp; Look for his senior leadership and intelligence to help Bradshaw have another shot at a Region title and possibly another deep run in the State playoffs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Last but certainly not least, Josiah Peeples of host Prescott High school played extremely well.&nbsp; His quickness and tenacity on defense (especially the press) will allow him to compete for region defensive player of the year.&nbsp; His 3 point shot looked much improved and his athleticism allows him to dunk with ease.&nbsp; Josiah will have a banner junior season and will help Prescott High battle arch rival Bradshaw Mountain for the region title.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->

On June 2nd and 3rd I watched summer league games hosted by Prescott High School.  Schools ranging from tiny 1A all the way to sprawling Phoenix 6A schools competed in the cool air of Prescott, AZ.  A couple of the standout players are fairly well known in Arizona basketball circles but others have not yet become known outside of Northern Arizona.
