The top brackets of the event, Slam and Powerade, held their quarterfinal games Saturday morning and teams played for their chance to make the final on Saturday night.
Aaron had two 20+ point games for Rancho Cucamonga on Saturday including a 22 point, 6 assist, and 5 rebound performance against Brophy Prep. He shoots the ball confidently from three off of the catch or dribble and isn’t scared of letting it go from a few feet beyond the line. The threat of Glass’s range alone opens up driving/cutting lanes for himself and teammates.
Vyctorius impressed on Saturday in AZ Compass’s game against a tough Bella Vista team. He showed off his elite scoring prowess by making mid range and 3 point jumpers off of the catch or the dribble, getting to the basket with crafty dribble moves and footwork, and posting up defenders to get his smooth fadeaway. Miller also attacks the basket with great aggression and is able to finish with power or finesse.
Jaden took off on Saturday with huge performances in wins for Tualatin over Campbell Hall (CA) and Arbor View (NV). He compiled 40 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists against Campbell Hall as he showed off all of his playmaking skills. Steppe dominated in the open court finishing confidently at the basket with either hand and finding teammates for easy looks with on time, on target passes. He also showed an arsenal of moves in the half court; breaking down defenders off the dribble and facing up in the mid-post area where he exhibited a good mid range jump shot.
Marley exploded on Saturday night for 40 points in Central Catholic’s semi-final win over Liberty (NV) in the Financial Solutions Bracket. He repeatedly beat defenders off the dribble and is great at exploiting angles to keep defenders behind him once he gets by in order to get all the way to the basket. In and around the paint Zeller has good touch with either hand and his athleticism allows him to be creative in terms of the angles he gets shots off from.
Pharoah controlled the paint on Saturday for Arbor View in their win over Timpview (UT). He has a long wingspan which allows him to gather in tons of rebounds at both ends, contest/alter shots on defense, and be a power finisher as well as one that draws a lot of contact. Compton’s game definitely contributes to winning basketball but he needs to refine his ball skills to make a wide ranging impact on offense.
