June 21st-22nd I watched the inaugural Section-7 Qualifier. There were 96 teams in 12 pools of 8 teams each.

The 12 winners advanced to the official Section-7 Friday-Sunday versus some of the top teams in the West Coast.

Here were some of the top SG's I viewed:

[player_tooltip player_id='2039503' first='Chad' last='Coplin'] ALA-Ironwood (Pictured)

A long wing scorer has sneaky athleticism. His mid-range pull-up is his sweet spot and he can get flush it down on the break. He can catch and shoot from the three and get downhill and score on euro steps in traffic. The newcomer for me will definitely breakout this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1177608' first='Makhi' last='Golston'] North Canyon

A thicker framed scoring guard is a sniper. He has long arms and a stronger upper body to play the passing lanes and rebounds easily in his area. Once he hits the first one, he can rattle them off with a super quick release. He will be critical this season with the loss of some good seniors.

[player_tooltip player_id='2039504' first='Jyren' last='Griffin'] Buckeye

A stronger guard has a great motor to defend and rebound. He grabs out of area boards and will score. He can hit the catch three plus pull-up from mid-range. He will do a lot of the glue things that win games.

[player_tooltip player_id='2039505' first='Braylon' last='Haman'] Willow Canyon

A tougher guard made play after play in their games. He will hit the catch three and consistently made tough shots getting to the rack. He is deceptively fast and will get to the rim fairly quickly with longer strides.

[player_tooltip player_id='1128217' first='JJ' last='Martin'] Sunrise Mountain

A lean scoring guard can hit the catch three. He is a true gunner with range. He gets squared up very fast and lets it fly. He has a sneaky quick handle to get passed his defenders and makes smart floor decisions.

[player_tooltip player_id='1620346' first='Josh' last='McManaway'] McClintock

One of the top shooters in the class backed it up with four triples in the beginning of the half. He has ultimate confidence, good size and if you close out to him, he will drive by and lay it in or use the floater game. He can rebound with his size and smartly moves without the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1873794' first='Ashton' last='Romney'] Walden Grove

A long scoring guard with legit size and skill. He can hit the catch three, euro step to the basket and he glides around the court with the ball. He rebounds well with his size and although leaner he can handle contact and will flush it down on the break.

[player_tooltip player_id='2039506' first='Isaac' last='Sdobnev'] Cienega

A guard who does many things well. He has good court awareness to defend multiple positions and always seems to be in the correct spot. He is very patient to score inside on ball fakes and will drive it with a decent handle. He is a very good rebounder with a motor and will hit some perimeter shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2039507' first='Maleek' last='Simeus'] Chandler

A taller and strong scoring guard who is a three level scorer. He can hit the catch three and has good body control to score around the post defenders. He plays the passing lanes well as he uses his long arms to collect steals and deflections.

[player_tooltip player_id='1757699' first='Paris' last='Strozier Jr'] Thunderbird

A long defensive guard. He was slowing down top players on the other team with his length and quick twitch. He loves getting downhill to score and can crow hop for two points. He is a great rebounder for his position and will score on put backs.

[player_tooltip player_id='1371097' first='Dario' last='Vella'] North Canyon

A unique passing guard with a super high feel for the game. He was one of the better passers I viewed and throws it in stride. He will rebound the ball and score on put backs and could be a glue guy for this season and have a bigger role for next.
