However, we are in the month of June and typically players are back with their high school teams for camps, workouts, and tournaments. Those circumstances got PHD thinking…..Who will be some of the top Class B players to watch in SD next winter? We have 11 players to keep your eyes on!
Class B Elite Talent
He has been named All-State multiple years in a row and will be again next year. Mitchell puts up big numbers every season. The Gorillas will have a great shot at getting to State. Daniel is long, athletic and bouncy. He protects the rim and dunks in impressive fashion. Mitchell can put up points from every level and is a matchup nightmare. Can Gregory make a run to the State Tournament? PHD says yest they can!
Lefty is a sniper that put up massive numbers last season. He is not just a shooter, Jackson is an underrated athlete and a playmaker. Besides being a bucket from three point land, he can also create going to the basket. Schauer and the Longhorns will be one of the best in B!
The Cardinals will be one of the scariest teams in B next year and a huge part of that will be because of Gaspar. He will do whatever the team needs and he is an ultra-hard worker. Nic is a physical and strong athlete that gets it done on both sides of the ball. Gaspar can hit the 3-ball, hit from mid-range, slash to the bucket, and bounce up for splashy dunks. He is a versatile defender and is also productive on the glass.
He helped get Castlewood to State last season and Lane will be a lead guard for the highly ranked Warriors next season. Tvedt has a complete game with all of the skill that you could ask for. He handles it well, can make all the passes, scores in & out, has a sweet J, defends hard, and will do the little things. Lane has played well this spring in AAU hoops this spring. Tvedt is a playmaker and a winner!
The Tigers seem to always get to Aberdeen (State) in March. Nic’s dad (Eldon) is a legend in South Dakota and it is easy to see that Nic has absorbed a ton of knowledge from the veteran head coach. Nic had a very nice junior season but you should expect his senior year to be outstanding. Sayler is moving on to SDSU, so the young Marshall will be running the show and he will put up gaudy numbers. Nic is having a very giid AAU season and you should expect him to keep improving over the summer. This spring he has stood out as a slasher that scores at the rim and dishes assists. White River and Marshall will be fun to watch next high school hoops season.
20-6 last season, 5th place at State, the Warriors should start the season ranked #1 or #2 in the State. They return a ton of talent & experienced players. Laue is one of the best low post players in SD, let alone Class B. Few teams can match his size and power down low. He will draw double teams all season and make everyone’s life easier. He is a paint protector and a vacuum rebounder. Byron is a powerful finisher with great feet. Laue is always improving and he will be a much better player in 5 months from now. Bryon and the Warriors are going to be a salty squad!
He had a breakout season and helped lead the Cougars to the State Tournament. Hanson was All-State and he is playing very well this spring in AAU ball. When I watched Nick this May, I was impressed with his skill and overall feel for the game. He is an intriguing prospect for college coaches and Hanson will be one of the top BIGs in South Dakota next season. Expect to see Hanson and the Cougars back at the big dance in March.
Highlights
He is a good-sized player and a multi-sport stud. Luke comes from an athletic family and it is no surprise that he is a standout on the hardwood. Koepsell is a lefty and he can fill-it-up from beyond the arc. He can also make things happen in the paint. The Tigers are going to be tough next year with plenty of size and athleticism. Howard will be a team to keep tabs on in Class B.
I first saw Weber play live this spring and he was beyond impressive. He is a special athlete and a high riser. This youngster can play above the rim. Weber is an overall smart and heady player that can cut, pass, and screen well. He is a versatile player that can execute like a veteran. Ben his a bright future ahead of himself.
This kid just oozes talent! If you have not watched Wittler play, you are missing out. He is gifted/talented & super skilled for his age. Wesley is a pure shooter and a long range assassin. I love his pull-up game and he is equally impressive in catch-n-shoot situations. Wesley is also a crafty & nifty finisher around the rim. The young Wittler kid is one of the best kept secrets in South Dakota!
He is young but he played a vital role in getting his squad to State and Brady was an All-Conference player. Schroedermeier stood out as a defender this past season, that is rare from a freshmen. Brady has the potential to be a lockdown defender this next season as only a sophomore. He can score the ball and run the show at the point guard position. The Cougars are going to win many games next season and you should expect them back at State.
