Watching Cosme play basketball is like seeing the energizer Bunny as he keeps going and going. On Sunday it was two games of the same thing. Cale has a knack for just getting in the lane and drawing eyes on him usually for kick-out situations, but in some situations, he gets wide-open layups. As the games went on teams went zone and Cosme started to make shots from two feet beyond the arc. His feel and knowledge of the game are extremely high. Cosme played so well that he received his first college offer from Lewis University. Such a fun player to cover.
Jake Nosek (Metea Valley) 2025
Sunday I had to get a second look at Jake. I was intrigued seeing him at R-B the week before but this week I figured out this kid is much better than what I saw initially. Nosek is a 6’8 stretch forward who has great mechanics and moves like a guard at times. Jake looked good coming off staggered screens and working off flare screens for catch-and-shoot buckets. When around the bucket he has nice footwork and length to finish over defenders. Nosek looks to be a mid-major talent in the near future.
Devin Cleveland (Kenwood) 2027
For the last 7 years, most Chicago high school Basketball fanatics have seen Devin in the gym as a young child running on a court putting up shots thinking he’s going to be nice. Well, it’s the middle of 2023 in the middle of June and Devin is already creating basketball memories and still hasn’t taken his first high school class yet. He put up a big 34 points in a PG duel with Cosme in the afternoon. Cleveland is poised off the ball screens always ready to shoot if a defender plays off him when they follow him over the screen he has slick handles to get to the rim. His poise for a guard his age is amazing and will be a problem for CPS opponents in the next few years.

Smith is an explosive athlete that is always creating highlight-quality plays at the rim. On Sunday he was ready to prove he’s not a one-trick pony. Terrence looked really comfortable hitting shots on the perimeter and making plays with his handle to score. Smith has been in the lab working on becoming a better wing player offensively. His ability to block shots and sore over guys to rebound also is a staple to his game, but if he keeps getting better and better with his jump shot we may have a top 3 prospect to deal with.

Over anyone in the event, I have been more outspoken about how good Al can become since Thanksgiving of 2022. This weekend was no different as Brooks was all over the court scoring off tough layups, snatching rebounds, and pushing the fastbreak if you named it he did it. What’s so intriguing about him is at his size he can handle the ball, make quick decisions on the fly, and is one of the better defenders in the state. Al can guard 1 – 4 positions and has good timing to block shots. After a 37 point and 17 rebound performance a couple of colleges have become very interested in this still-emerging prospect.
