Continue ReadingJune 3-4 PH NorCal was at the High School Summer Classic at Chabot College in Hayward, CA. This was the first Nor-Cal event in June that allows high school teams to play together. There were approximately 24 teams. For Half of these teams it was the start of a competitive month that will see our NorCal teams match up against quality competition at the two big high school events later this month in SoCal and Arizona. Others will stay and play June in NorCal in preparation for the next high school season.
Arman Martin
Arman Martin
He did a solid job of running the teams offense in the half-court. He probes around the perimeter with his dribble moving the ball or deciding to use a burst to get by the defender, and make hard drives into the paint. He can get to his spots for mid-range jumpers. He’ll dish and dump on the penetration into the paint.
Baileys not new to us, he’s at a new school and adjusting to his new surroundings. He has some tools to help this team. He’s a solid body that will help defend the post area and rebound at a good rate. He has a good touch around the rim, he executes the pick and roll or can pop out for a short jumper. He can use a dribble or two to get closer.
Ozmandias Savage
Ozmandias Savage
He’s a long wiry prospect whose effect on the game won’t show up in the stats. He’s an active player that works hard to defend taller players in the post, but has the foot speed to react and recover guarding the perimeter. He has good bounce going after rebounds out of his space. He’s a good court runner, his points come by put back for now.
Gibbs plays a good all around game with good speed and a growing skill set. At 6’3 helps with team rebounding. He handles and leads the transition break with good passing up court, or using his speed and a move to go coast to coast. He has the handles, and speed to get by defenders from the perimeter, and length and toughness to score inside.
Highlights
Standing 6’2 Moore gets the ball right before the paint, attacks the basket using a dribble or two, his body, spin moves and balance to finish in the paint. He can handle on the perimeter attacking and kicking it out to others with good passing. He got hot one game and dropped back to back 3’s. He helps on the boards, makes free throws.
Morris is only 6’1, and has real effect working his game in the post area. He doesn’t post up, he does work from the mid-post at times, has explosion and strength going up off two feet for points, slashing or cutting. He’s an excellent rebounding guard for his size. He’ll attack from the baseline and finish in transition. He plays hard.
He’s made real progress after sitting the varsity bench last season. He’s trimmed a bit and showing good activity in the post area, defending and using his body to get rebounds. He’s passing good from the high and low post. He knows his role, work for rebounds, defend in the paint, set solid screens and good passing. He has a drop step.
Deely has trimmed down and moving better with purpose, still not fast but very effective with the ball. He has guard like skills, handles, vision and excellent passing. He’s moved further away from the basket using his body and dribble to get to his spots, and setting up teammates. He looks to shoot from mid-range out to the 3ptr.
McNeal has a strong body, plays with good bounce going after blocks and rebounds. He’s shown he can operate on the perimeter dribbling, passing, and slashing into the paint. He’s still sharpening his overall skill set, he’ll shoot 3’s, he’s had success on the drive into the paint. He can score in the post when down there at this level.
Andrue Perkins

A speedy under 6’0 guard who does a solid job of running the offense in half-court, showing patience and spacing. He has good speed pushing and passing up in transition. He has a crossover dribble to get by defenders and into the paint for kick-outs, dump-offs or finishes. He’s a pass first guard, but can hit the mid-range off the dribble, and create for himself.
