As a Class of 2014 Hanover College graduate I'll take any chance I can get to go back to my alma mater. A great opportunity presented itself on Thursday as they were hosting their first high school shootout of the month. With several good programs from southern Indiana and the surrounding area it was an excellent opportunity to take a look at an area of the state that doesn't get as much coverage. Well, besides from us at Prep Hoops Indiana of course! Here are four quick takeaways from my day spent at the Hanover College Shootout.

Brownstown Central is going enter the season as the favorite to win Class 2A. However, they are likely even better than that. This team has a core of future college basketball players that you could throw up against most of the best teams, regardless of size, in the state of Indiana. Fresh off of scoring 20 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Indiana Junior All-Stars over their senior counterparts on Wednesday night, [player_tooltip player_id='1158245' first='Jack' last='Benter'] was scoring it at will on Thursday at Hanover College. The Purdue commit was lighting it up from deep as the Braves rolled through their competition. Meanwhile, fellow rising senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1547584' first='Parker' last='Hehman'] was solid in the backcourt. Elsewhere, rising junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1296999' first='Chace' last='Coomer'] had an excellent day shooting the ball from beyond the arc. Finally, 6'6" rising junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1297005' first='Colby' last='Hall'] showed off his inside-outside versatility. Quite simply, Brownstown is one of the better teams in the state regardless of class.

Knightstown has a solid under-the-radar prospect in rising senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='2089941' first='Michael' last='Roberson']. The 6'3" prospect averaged 17.1 points per game as a junior and showed off his skill level on Thursday at Hanover College. I was most impressed with his passing ability as he hit guys on the roll, whipped passes across the court, and sent the ball ahead in transition. Roberson is a guy to keep an eye on going into July with his Midwest Explosion team and then into the high school season for Knightstown.

Another under-the-radar prospect that stood out on Thursday was Southwestern (Hanover) rising senior wing [player_tooltip player_id='1761700' first='Jamison' last='Lewis']. The 6'3" prospect averaged 17.6 points per game to go with 6.1 rebounds and a team-high 3.4 assists for the Rebels as they went 21-4 a year ago. He has a versatile skill set that includes shooting it from three-point range, attacking closeouts, and finding open teammates.

Don't sleep on Lapel in Class 2A. Just how good they are obviously remains to be seen, it is just June after all, but they return five of their top seven scorers and have some real talent. Rising juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1381459' first='Brode' last='Judge'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1534945' first='Bode' last='Judge'] averaged 14.0 and 10.5 points per game respectively and were the Bulldogs top scorers last season. I like the size that rising senior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1547492' first='Matthew' last='Carpenter'] adds inside as well. Look for rising senior wing Nolan Witte to have a good season as well as an outside shooting threat.
