In this Coaches Clipboard, we ask Head Coach Josh Coley of the Christ School Greenies about his team. The Greenies had a historic season starting at 16-0 ( 2nd best in school history). They also added an NCISAA 4A State Championship last year on a remarkable tournament run. (7th in school history) Coley on the season. “It was a rewarding year for the program. “

The Greenies went 31-4 overall & ended the season with a 6-game winning streak. Cooley on how they achieved this “The boys worked extremely hard each day and pushed each other to improve individually, which allowed us to improve as a team.

Christ School will miss [player_tooltip player_id='746053' first='Emanuel' last='Richards'] & [player_tooltip player_id='1049230' first='Anthony' last='Robinson']. They are 15th & 19th on the Christ School All-Time Scoring list. Coach Coley said, “We had a great group of senior leaders who led our team through good days and bad. Our seniors leaving us this year were phenomenal in setting and establishing our culture. They did not afford anyone on our team to skip steps while embracing the daily grind. They were our hardest workers every day, which also made others work. “

The Greenies won 5 State Championships in a row from 2007-2011. The 2023 State Championship is the first in over a decade. Now the big question is how they will return to the state championship. Coley on how they will achieve a back-to-back state championship “This year, we will again look to our returners and seniors to carry on the culture that has been established. We will put our heads down and begin our journey with no shortcuts or skipping reps in the weight room or on the floor, as we hope for an equally rewarding outcome.”

Joining the group of outstanding returners. They have 6'8 230lb [player_tooltip player_id='1164550' first='Zymicah' last='Wilkins'] (Class of 2025), 6'3 [player_tooltip player_id='1239543' first='Madden' last='Collins'] (Class of 2025), and 6'4 [player_tooltip player_id='1755072' first='Mason' last='Collins'] (Class of 2027)

I asked Coley what he learned about himself as a coach from last season. He said, “I learned to trust our preparation. Once prepared, trust our guys to make the right reads and play through their mistakes. It was great to sit back and watch our growth as a team, as where we started was not where we finished as a group. I enjoyed staying in the moment and taking things one day at a time.”

Coley's coaching style is based/predicated on Defense. He tells me they work on it relentlessly each day without excuses. The details matter. On the offensive end, they allow their guys to play and make mistakes. Coley adds, “Firm believer that you only get better through playing and having the ability to make mistakes on the floor and play through them.”

Lastly, Coley says, “We encourage our guys to be the same every day. Bring their hard hat and lunchbox to practice, and let's work.”

In my opinion, with Coach Coley at the helm, Christ School will continue its winning tradition!
