After breaking down some intriguing 2025 point guard prospects, it’s time to continue my “Bluegrass State Standouts” series by evaluating some of the most explosive shooting guards. Without further ado, here’s my list of the top 2025 shooting guards in Kentucky to watch for next season.
Highlights
At the top of my list of standouts is Zander Carter Zander Carter 6'6" | SG Ashland Blazer | 2025 State #296 Nation KY , a 6-foot-6 shooting guard at Ashland Blazer High School. Carter was a huge difference maker for the Tomcats during his sophomore stint of high school basketball last year. In 35 contests, Carter led the team in scoring and rebounding, picking up a grand total of 776 points and 212 rebounds. The rising junior out of Ashland, KY. averaged 22.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. Carter additionally shot 50.0% (287-574) from the field, 39.0% (76-195) from beyond the arc and 78.3% (126-161) from the free throw line. In addition to impressive size, speed and versatility on both sides of the floor, Carter showcases efficient passing, smart shooting and an excellent array of ways to score the basketball. Entering next season, he should be interesting to watch.
Coming in at close second place is Layken Lyons Layken Lyons 6'2" | SG Taylor County | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-2 shooting guard at Taylor County High School. Lyons was one of the most efficient players on the floor for the Cardinals during his sophomore season of high school basketball last year. In 31 games, Lyons was the top scorer and third-best rebounder on the team, recording a total of 583 points and 192 rebounds, averaging 18.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Campbellsville, KY. additionally shot 52.1% (226-434) from the field, 40.3% (29-72) from behind the three-point line and 66.7% (102-153) from the free throw line. With excellent size, speed and toughness on the court, Lyons was a huge gamechanger, producing smart passes and shots, and made a solid effort to benefit his team on both sides of the floor.

Another impressive in-state talent to make the list is Griffen Derry Griffen Derry 6'3" | SG Dixie Heights | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-2 shooting guard at Dixie Heights High School. Derry was one of the more explosive weapons on the Colonels’ roster during his sophomore stint of high school basketball last year. In 25 contests, Derry was the second-best shooter and the third-best rebounder on his team, collecting a total of 274 points and 97 rebounds. The rising junior out of Edgewood, KY. averaged 11.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Derry also shot 43.2% (92-213) from field goal range, 39.7% (58-146) from the three-point line and 84.2% (32-28) from the free throw line. With excellent size, speed and consistent shooting, Derry made a huge impact last season, showcasing his versatility on both sides of the court and his ability to contribute to the team.

At fourth place on my list of standouts is Noah Silverton Noah Silverton 6'3" | SG Newport | 2025 State KY , a 6-foot-1 shooting guard at Newport High School. Silverton made a huge splash on the court for the Wildcats during his sophomore season of high school basketball. In 35 games, Silverton made significant contributions, collecting a grand total of 159 points and 87 rebounds, averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Newport, KY. additionally shot 46.9% (61-130) from the field, 22.5% (9-40) from beyond the arc and 62.2% (28-45) from the free throw line. What stands out about Noah is his size, speed and consistent shooting from the perimeter and in the paint. He should be entertaining to watch on the court next season.

Claiming the fifth place spot on the list is Rashaad Faulkner Rashaad Faulkner 5'11" | SG Bryan Station | 2025 State KY , a 5-foot-11 shooting guard at Bryan Station High School. Faulkner was explosive on the floor for the Defenders during his sophomore stint of high school basketball last year. In 30 contests, Faulkner became one of the strongest scorers and rebounders on the roster, picking up a total of 184 points and 63 rebounds, averaging 6.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. The rising junior out of Lexington, KY. additionally shot 41.1% (72-175) from field goal range, 28.2% (22-78) from three-point range and 75.0% (18-24) from the free throw line. In addition to solid size, speed and versatility on both sides of the court, Faulkner impresses with his ability to drive in the lane, make smart passes and sink shots from range.
