BCAT Team Camp Session II: Saturday Notebook
In this article:
BCAT Team Camp spent the final June weekend in the south Nashville suburbs. Many college coaches evaluated players in-person and likely online.
These are their stories.
Independence – Hamilton
Independence was whacking Hamilton High early. In truth, Hamilton’s body language was horrendous and they brought a short bench, maybe seven total players? For an event that entails multiple games per day, that is a terrible scenario doomed to fail.
Jett Montgomery Jett Montgomery 6'1" | PG Independence | 2024 State TN and Tylan Lewis Tylan Lewis 6'2" | PG Independence | 2025 State TN played very well together. The team ran real offensive sets and the sharp cuts to the basket helped put Jett and Tylan and others in positions to succeed. Houston Hicks Houston Hicks 6'8" | PF Independence | 2024 State TN hit a three-pointer and a reverse layup and-1. He is playing with a lot more toughness in the last few months than he did in the high school season. His body is still thin, but he has turned the corner mentally and rebounds and attacks with more confidence.
Cookeville – Baylor School
Joshua Heard Joshua Heard 6'5" | SG Cookeville | 2024 State TN hit a beautiful pull-up jumper in the second quarter. Seconds later he landed awkwardly on his right foot, irritating his already tender ankle. Heard’s exit from the game immediately hurt Cookeville offensively. They sputtered and searched or solutions.
This was my first watch of Zane Restelli Zane Restelli 6'3" | SG Baylor School | 2025 State TN . He looks really creative. Kind of a Mike Dunleavy Jr. kind of a player. Silky. Great shooter, but also innovative in the lane. He needs more upper-body strength for sure. To be elevated to a dominant D2-level scorer, Restelli must tack on some good weight. He might project as a point guard though, which would be helpful at his height (maybe 6’2″?
Wonderful pass out of the post by Jack Shutters Jack Shutters 6'10" | PF Baylor School | 2024 State TN (’24 Baylor School). Cookeville did their best to send a double team his way right away, and he recognized it very well. Shutters will be a D1 player most likely. He is built like Brock Vice was. Shutters is the kind of big that knows what he is. He runs from one block to the other end on the block. He does not waste time wandering around or floating around the arc. He plays with purpose and discipline.
Bolton Born Bolton Born 6'4" | SG Baylor School | 2025 TN (Baylor School ’25) was very good. He played active and fast. Clever. He is probably a NAIA prospect, at his peak. Born plays kind of a 2/3 for this team, as they have two or three point guards. He is probably 6-foot-2. Slender.
Power Center Academy – Trinity Christian Academy (Jackson)
Nazir Allen Nazir Allen 6'7" | SF Power Center Academy | 2024 State TN (Power Center Academy) – Naz is the real deal. Wow. Shooting touch. Quickness at 6-foot-7 or 6-foot-8. A point guard tried to cross him in a tight space, and Naz poked it free. Just incredible reaction time and coordination.
Kaleb Davis Kaleb Davis 6'10" | PF Collierville | 2026 State TN is a unique, exciting basketball prospect. His older siblings are all playing college sports, on scholarship. He is a Class of 2026 guy. There is a very strong chance he will not play for PCA in the fall/winter. Davis is a younger player obviously, but the potential is really strong.
Independence – Baylor School
Jett Montgomery Jett Montgomery 6'1" | PG Independence | 2024 State TN created against a tough, tough team. Zane Restelli Zane Restelli 6'3" | SG Baylor School | 2025 State TN came out aggressive, hitting and taking three-pointers. Nyziah Whaley Nyziah Whaley 5'9" | PG Baylor School | 2024 State TN was puncturing defenses all morning and afternoon and continued in this game.
These might be the two top teams at the event. Very disciplined and they ran constant offensive sets. Good talent on both sides.
Baylor School ended with the win. Zane was electric in the second half. Passing, defending. He did it all.
