I concentrated on the Apple Valley HS venue but also made the trip to other locations to catch top prospects. This being one of the biggest events of the spring I was not disappointed.

Watch the kid twice this past weekend and he just produces. In the first game on Friday he went for 22pts and followed it up with a 23pt performance. on day two. Definitely, doesn’t possess superior size or athleticism and is not flashy but you look at the stat sheet after the game and the production is there. Call me a fan!
Jack Burke / 6’4″ / Rosemount, MN / MN Impact
For me this prospect might be a top player of his division candidate. I was just really impressed with his play. Wherever the ball was he was there. Very active. Leader. Able to play inside and out, where he hit multiple threes, then could get to the free throw line and knock those down too. Possessing a 6’3/4 frame as a freshman I think he merits more attention as someone who could be on the list in the next couple of years. I’m interested enough to watch more to see where his work and development takes him.

Second player from this 15u team I thought this one worked hard. He battled on the interior for boards. Had a couple of nice finishes and then his foot work was solid enough. A perfect compliment to his teammate Jack Burke. This prospect, while not lacking in strength, needs to develop in the weight room where, if he does, his athletic ability will start to pop. He is on this list because of the game & half I watched he never stopped working. Working on things that don’t always show up in the stats.

I have written about this prospect before but with all of the attributes he has, it seems that he is improving at a nice rate throughout the AAU spring season. Where he is currently exceeding is in his slashing ability and offensive rebounding. With both he is able to use his leaping ability to rise above his competitors to score or grab the board. I like that he is a willing rebounder from the guard position. Additionally, he appears to be arriving as a leader on his team, where his teammates look for him to come through as the game gets tight. At 6’0″ but a size 14 shoe I look for this one to have some growth yet to come. If he works he might just be a force in the Greater Metro in a couple of years.

Two things that pop out when watching this prospect play. First, he looks to be stronger than his competition and this certainly helps him perform on the court and his athleticism. Second, he controls most everything on the court for his team. Pace of the game and facilitator are his job responsibilities. Plus, he is the Defacto leader of the young team, they look for him at every opportunity. I have seen two games of this prospects this spring, and while he is not flashy, he is someone that works and leads by example to produce where his team needs him to do so.

Prospect Alert! Prospect Alert! I have seen this one plays a few times this summer. He has the build; he has the developing skill. and if he works, he can be the ‘it’ factor for his class. Just watch him play and do yourself a favor, don’t always tally points or rebounds. Watch the positioning, the rim protection, footwork, wiliness and ability to play inside & out. He has a way to go but if you can notice the smaller items/flashes then you know they are coming at a nice rate of improvement. Do you know who else developed at this pace….
