Minnesota is filled with talented programs and this group falls into that category. Comprising all local players, this team represents their section of the state in a great way. I was fortunate enough to catch up with the Coach to learn more about the growing program and take a deeper dive into the players and what makes the team gel, here’s what he had to say.
What are your thoughts on how your team has competed thus far in circuit season? How have you prepared?
I think compared to last year we’ve really stepped it up on the circuit this year. Being a newer team I feel like we’ve turned a lot of heads so far this spring.
Which Prep Hoops Next event are you looking forward to most and why?
Looking forward to NHR State as well as the Last Dance in Chicago.
What are your team strengths and areas that could use improvements?
I think our main strength is our defensive intensity & our ability to run. One thing I feel we could improve on is just talking more on defense as well as running our sets all the way through.
Roster
#2 Octavius Davis Octavius Davis 5'9" | PG St. Paul Johnson | 2026 State MN | Johnson High School
Floor general. An absolute annoyance on defense as well. This kid does it all.
#3 Tyrel Pride Tyrel Pride 6'0" | PG Tartan | 2026 State MN | Tartan High School
Our best player in my opinion. Ty is already built like a grown man & he uses that to his advantage.
#1 Jaylen Goergen Jaylen Goergen 6'1" | SG Tartan | 2026 State MN | Tartan High School
Great Defender with the ability to create his shot on the offensive end
#8 George Anderson – St.Thomas Academy
Great length, gets after it on the defensive end.
#23 Salman Hussein – Tartan High School
Great footwork for such a young forward. Can shoot the 3 well & rebounds the ball at a high
#11 Rino Kamp – Johnson High School
Knockdown shooter & our best on ball defender. Remember the name. rate.
#21 Lamont Smith – Tartan High School
Played Varsity football as freshman, basketball is his second sport but at 6’5 and bulky he’s a presence on the court.
#10 Quan Stewart Quan Stewart 6'1" | SG Tartan | 2026 State MN – Tartan High School
High motor guy that can change a game with his defensive intensity or ability to get to the cup offensively.
#15 Nate Obeta – Johnson High School
#5 Garrett Miller | St.Croix Lutheran
#0 Gavin Miller | St.Croix Lutheran
How does your roster stack up against last season’s roster? Any major changes?
I think compared to last year we are way better all around. Last year we had 13 kids, this year 11. Trying to cut it down to a solid 10 guys next year.
All of our guys will be playing Varsity/JV, the intensity of these practices as well as the competition of each player’s respective schedule. I think it will be an even better turnout next year when we have 10 guys who can all contribute at a high level.
What facet of the game do you want to improve on most going into next season?
I think next year after these guys get another year of high school under their belt then we will really begin to turn heads! Still not done this year though.
Who are your best returning players? Who are your best additions, if any?
Best returning players are Rino Kamp, Octavius Davis Octavius Davis 5'9" | PG St. Paul Johnson | 2026 State MN & Tyrel Pride Tyrel Pride 6'0" | PG Tartan | 2026 State MN .
