His AAU team runs a few sets that allow him to be able to give up the basketball and then get it back. From watching him this past weekend his favorite spot to operate from is the top of the key. He loves to get just below the free throw line and pull up for the jump shot over the defense. When he decides to shoot the three, his favorite spot is the right wing. If he is run off the three-point line he has no problem putting his head down and going to the whole. He is a hard matchup for any perimeter defender because he does have the ability to be able to create a shot for himself off the dribble which he plays to his advantage. He did a great job of not forcing the issue throughout the weekend and always seemed to take smart shots. As I watched Cooper it seemed like he was always out there having fun throughout the game. Throughout this weekend he consistently had smaller guys on him and was able to shoot over the top of his defenders. Every time he shot the ball I thought it was going in and as I looked at his teammates and bench, they thought the same thing. He is very good at going full speed and then being able to change directions to create space to get his shot off. He has an old school mentally to me because although the game of basketball has prioritized the three he enjoys the midrange game a little bit more. As I saw him throughout the weekend he just doesn't stop for any reason at all. It was a few times I watched him, one of his teammates would shoot the ball and he would grab the rebound two or three different times in trying to put it back up. When you watch him play it seems as if he is out of control but you realize that he is actually in control with everything that he does. Because of his speed defenders have to back off of him which allows him to consistently knock down three-pointers from deep. During championship Sunday he consistently imposed his will on the games and lead his team to the Oklahoma State Tournament championship. When he was able to get in the lane he loved using the underhand scoop shot to finish layups. He loves to shoot the mid-range shot around the free throw line and doesn't hesitate to put his shoulder into the defender when he is going to the whole. What I loved about Eckel is his elevation on his jump shot which allowed him to get it off over taller more athletic defenders. With his team, he had to play off the ball but I think he would be best suited if he was in a position to be the primary ball handler. With him being so young he still has time to get taller and his body matures a little bit more as well. He is a lefty that doesn't mind going to the basket but is also very versatile on the defensive side of the basketball. During the championship game, it was a guard on the other team that was having a field day, and once he switched to him a bunch of the easy shots he was getting disappeared.
