Continue ReadingIn tthe first article I talked about the players from the Pac Xpress side. In this one, I will highlight some from the Mt. Rainier side. These are players who play at Enumclaw, Eatonville, and one from Graham Kapowsin. The two teams went at it for about 40 minutes of fairly even basketball.
Shay is a talented prospect who provides the length and size of a post with the skills of a guard. The best guard skill he provides is his ability to stretch the floor with deep threes. He is a good shooter who can shoot it off the dribble, re-locates, and even step-back style threes. He can handle the ball well enough to set up his shots, which combined with his 6’7 length makes him a tough match-up. He is also good at getting to the basket with very few dribbles and long strides. He can finish with some big-time dunks when he gets there. He finished the scrimmage with Pac Xpress scoring around 14 points, including a couple of deep threes from NBA range. I believe he is an unsigned senior with a few offers. He is worth a look with his talent and unique skill set. A kid that loves the game from what I hear. He will continue to get better and has since I last saw him about 9 months ago.He also happened to average 20 and 10 this season for Eatonville. rn
Carter DeRosier
Carter DeRosier
Carter is a great shooter who has a good all around feel for the game. He is around 6’2 with decent length. He showed the ability to pull-up in the mid range with effectiveness going both ways. Although he didn’t have his best shooting day, it’s not hard to see that any of his shots could find the bottom of the net. His shot is pure and he can get his own off the dribble or catch and shoot with a quick release and range extending beyond the arc. He is a player who can play either guard spot well. His length adds to his game on the defensive end and with rebounding ability. He jumps well, and is a good athlete. He was the MVP of his league this season for Enumclaw and has the all around game to play at the next level. If nothing else as a knock down shooter, although as I mentioned, he is more than that.rn
Hunter Hazen
Hunter Hazen
Hunter is a fun player to watch. He plays hard all the time and gets after it on both sides of the ball. He is best in transition or short drives to the hoop. He is athletic and can finish above the rim or through it with dunks. He always rebounds well and is a player every team could use. He has improved a lot in a year. He showed that in the regular season, coming up with some huge games for MWP, helping them to a 4th-place finish at the state tournament. He is also a strong kid who has a quick hands-on defense, getting him lots of steals. He might be a little undersized at the forward but makes up for it with toughness. He also has extended his range and can make the three although best as a slasher. rn
Liam Lenord
Liam Lenord
Liam is a lights-out shooter from three with a quick release and nice shot mechanics. He ended up hitting a couple of threes and all he shot looked like they were going down. He also has a little craftiness to his game, showing up with some nice spin moves and finishing at the basket. He didn’t shoot a lot, but maybe he should have. rn
Austin Pierce
Austin Pierce
rnAustin was one of the most effective players in the paint for this team. He got a lot of buckets in the paint. Either on drives to the hoop or cuts to the basket. He was effective and battled well inside for rebounds and second chances. I had him for 10 points but it seems like he had more. He played hard and kept his team in it with some needed baskets. He seemed to show up when they needed it the most. rn
Griffin Clevinger
Griffin Clevinger
Griffin is a steady player for this team. He is a strong guard who can score on tough drives to the hoop. He sees the floor well and can knock down shots from outside. He finished with 11 points, mostly on tough drives, and he hit a three as well. He also had some nice looks to open teammates. He averaged 10 points and just over three assists for Eatonville this season. He will be back for his senior season next year. He is listed as 5’10 but plays bigger. rn
Reuben Ablanalp
Reuben Ablanalp
He was impressive with around 14 points. Most of his shots were on drives to the hoop, something he did well. He has a knack for getting to the rim and showed the ability to finish with a variety of moves. He was creative, used the basket for a shield on reverse layups, and caused some problems at times with his ability to get downhill. A sneaky quick player who always seemed to have a good first step on the defense. He is a capable three-point shooter but he seemed to prefer to take it to the basket. A good idea since he was able to get there often.
Shane Taylor
Shane Taylor
Shane is a long 6’7 and held down the paint for this team. He battled inside, rebounding, and changing or blocking shots. He got some easy baskets inside with effort and 2nd chance opportunities. He is of slim build and can run the floor. He still has time to get stronger and be a force in the paint. He also displays a soft shooting touch. He averaged 5 rebounds and 2 blocks per game this season.
