Team Trezz Davis won the championship, we were witness to a lot of impressive basketball and some prospects that really made a name for themselves. Read below for some of my favorite guys from this weekend and what they do best.
Dean has been really good for No Guts No Glory recently, playing well in both of their games. He’s a big guard/wing that gets downhill really well and uses his left hand well to finish at the rim. That lefty stroke is also consistently pure from beyond the arc as well, where he spots up well in transition and makes his presence known. He can also push the ball up the floor and stretch the defense, but sometimes shows a bit of hurriedness or too much aggressiveness getting downhill too quickly. However, those IQ things are fixed with more reps, and his skillset as a scorer is undeniable. He’s a name to continue to get looks on this summer.
Williams was awesome for Team Trezz this weekend, and him being such a physical presence is something that college coaches should be interested in alone. Not only that, but he’s an accomplished slasher and really attacks hard and does business at the free throw line. He’s a stocky 6’3, but does not lack in quickness or straight line speed. This makes him a hard charging slasher that defenders don’t want to get in front of or foul when he goes up to the rim. He can drive, play out of the mid-post, or do anything with poise and excellence inside the arc. I’ll be interested to watch him more over the summer.

This is a guy I had never seen play or heard about prior to the weekend, but I thought he was someone that should be intriguing as a forward for a multitude of schools in the future. He’s pretty athletic and quick, and also owns a pretty decent low block post game. There’s lots of potential to tap into in terms of refining his hands and skill, but he runs well and can be found all over the court. He’s got the foot speed to guard smaller guys and will also use his frame to rebound the glass effectively. He’s someone that definitely has a longer path to stardom than others at his age, but he’s got the physical tools to develop into a big man that coaches could really use at the next level.
Swinney is an undersized dynamo that plays more like a true lead guard than many other kids claiming to be a point guard. He is definitely score first, but finds ways to facilitate for his teammates and get them involved as well. He’s shifty and super quick up and down the floor which makes him really difficult to pick up in transition. This way he can either get to the cup or find open teammates when defenses try to help on him. He’s also got quick handles which only add to his package. He’s a solid jump shooter as well, which really rounds out his game. This is one who continues to make strides every time I see him play, and hopefully some college attention should be coming soon.

Hewitt was another running mate on Team Trezz ‘s championship winning team that was super solid all weekend long. He shot jumpers and made layups, got to the free throw line, and really was a versatile offensive piece for his squad over the course of the tournament. He’s got a matchup-breaking frame at 6’6 and having guard skills, which makes him a tough cover at this level. He can play on the wing or forward spots, and defensively he holds his own on both of those kinds of players. He’s someone to watch out East this summer/fall, and to see whether he continues to follow up these performances against big competition.
