The event took place from May 5th to May 7th, with teams from all over the east coast in attendance. Here are some of the top 17u performances that I was able to get an eye on.
Colton Mullins
Colton Mullins
Throughout the event, Mullins played downhill, in attack-mode from the opening tip. He was able to get around defenders on the perimeter with his quick change of direction and tight handle. He also used the hang dribble to freeze defenders in place in get into the lane. When attacking the rim, Mullins did a good job of turning on the corner on defenders and maintaining his driving lane.
Eiden Harvey
Eiden Harvey
Harvey did a good job of maintaining body control and balance while absorbing contact on his straight line drives to the rim. The 5-foot-10 guard showed the ability to create good space in one on one situations and generate good shots for himself or teammates. Harvey showed hustle and good decision making on the offensive end, we saw him recover loose balls and turn them into three-pointers and deliver picture perfect lob passes from the baseline.
Charlie Seaborn
Charlie Seaborn
Throughout the event, Seaborn did a good job of making himself effective and impacting the game without the ball in his hands. When operating off-ball, seasborn was consistently on the move, occupying open spaces and positioning himself in the dunkers spot when teammates enter the paint with the ball. With the ball in his hands, Seaborn was able to attack defenders driving baseline to make a play time and time again.
Xavier Paige
Xavier Paige
Paige did a good job of getting out and running in transition and fastbreak situations, he played a determined mindset as he put pressure on the rim with every touch he got. He showed the ability to finish through contact, in traffic, as well his ability to score from deep with catch and shoot three-pointers that he shot with confidence. Defensively, Paige stayed locked in and did a good job of fighting and squeezing through on-ball screens to maintain his defensive assignment.
Taylor played a fearless game over the weekend. He put his defensive IQ, and willingness to risk his body for the team on display by rotating over, detering shots at the rim and drawing charge calls in the lane. Offensively he played with high motor. We saw Taylor Hustle down court on offensive fastbreaks to clean up missed layups and battle with intensity in the paint to pull down offensive rebounds and convert on second chance points.
