Battle at the Lakes: Friday Top Performers
In this article:
Friday night was a special night for players and one story could not contain all the quality player performances. Here is another group of excellent performances.
Matt Drake Matt Drake 5'11" | PG Lakeville North | 2024 State MN of Minnesota (6’1 point guard from Lakeville North). I felt a key reason that Select beat the Arizona squad last night was Drake’s ability to handle and get his team good shots at key times. Drake, as he usually does, made clutch jumpers down the stretch scoring 16 points with five boards and five assists earning an important win.
Ty Fernholz of Wisconsin Blizzard (6’2 guard from Stoughton). Ty hit 45 percent of his threes last winter making him a board member of the 40% Club and last night he led a shooting session allowing the Blizzard to beat D1 Minnesota 16s. His five threes and 19 points went a long way in getting the Blizzard yet another win.
Jonathan Mekonnen Jonathan Mekonnen 6'8" | PF Eastview | 2024 State #201 Nation MN of D1 Minnesota (6’7 forward from Eastview). D1 Minnesota saw Isaiah Johnson get them started, Isaiah Schafer Isaiah Schafer 6'1" | CG Bismarck Century | 2024 State ND make the difference, and Mekonnen put the game away. He scored his ten points late in the game with great basket attacks that were finished moving around a huge Sanford Sports Academy front line.
Isaiah Schafer Isaiah Schafer 6'1" | CG Bismarck Century | 2024 State ND of D1 Minnesota (6’1 guard from Bismarck Century). When they talk pure shooters that have Isaiah in mind. Last night he hit six threes on his way to a game high 20 plus I thought he did a nice job handling in his combo role too. Impact guy that helped his team win big.
Jeremiah Sem Jeremiah Sem 6'3" | SG Fargo North | 2024 State #303 Nation ND of Sanford Sports Academy (6’3 wing from Fargo North, ND). Sem has the explosive athletic ability that few have. For the second straight weekend he put together a highlight dunk, this time a windmill. Jeremiah also hit two threes and scored on the drive a couple times against D1 players for his dozen points.
Zy Stewart of Minnesota Select (6’1 point guard from Totino-Grace). Stewart makes his impact like a slow, steady rain. It’s not instantly overwhelming in one way, but it steadily comes at you and makes an impact. Last night he had a huge block, four scores, four boards, five assists, ball pressure, some handling, and some other highlight plays. A 10/4/4/2/2 game.
