Scheels Prospect League. Minnesota Select Ohnstad won the Prospect League beating Heat Wiley, Comets Allen, Fury Shepherd, Minnesota Rise, and North Dakota Phenom for the championship. With Phenom beating Fury by a decent margin and losing to Select, we give Select a boost in the rankings despite having lost to Fury Wilde about six weeks ago. Moderate controversy there as we try and lean on head to head for all of the rankings but at the same time this was a championship with considerable differences in common opponent results to the second place team so we went with it. Fury rebounded quite well blowing out two solid teams and beating ECI by two scores. Fury and Select will almost surely see each other in July.
Appleton, WI. Crossfire Young and Midwest Kings were both in Pool B this weekend and the pool was won by Crossfire Young with a 3-1 record. Midwest Kings went 2-2 in the event. Heat Academic was at the same event in Pool C and they got second place with a 3-2 record. Heat Academic picked up an extra game replacing a team resulting in them playing and beating Midwest Kings. Overall Minnesota 16s did well in Wisconsin.
Lakeville. The Lakeville event included several Select 16 and Under teams and the teams that did well were Select Brooks and Select Meitz. They both had a strong weekend before being beaten by Team Superb who is a new name for me but a team that brought home a championship. They beat Select Brooks by three and Select Meitz by a point. Also, Select Richardson was the other final four team and they lost to Brooks by three so it was a highly entertaining final four!
Shakopee. The name that came out of Shakopee grabbing my interest was Grassroots Elite McDonald. They were 4-0 in Pool C and they beat just about every team by double digits. J Sizzle 3SSB split their weekend games beating Gain Elite but lost to D1 Minnesota Coker. D1 Minnesota not only beat J Sizzle, they beat Pure Prep and crushed the Iowa Barnstormers (who went winless in the event). J Squad was in the title game against Fury Wilde last weekend, this weekend they beat Gain Elite and the Barnstormers but lost to the MoKan third team (Mokan third team is usually better than everybody’s top team in most places) and WMBA Elite.
Memphis. The Pulley Panthers were on both sides of the double figures games this weekend beating Houston Hoops and Arizona Unity by double figures but then losing to Bradley Beal Elite and The Family by similar margins. The Panthers are now 4-13 in E16s play.
