Brandon Hrncir Brandon Hrncir 6'8" | PF Farmington | 2024 State MN of Minnesota Fury (6’7 2024 forward from Farmington). The Australia team in the top pool was long, strong, and matured so it was tough for a lot of players to get into them and finish plays. That was not the case for Brandon. He opened that game with a couple threes and once the defenders started to step to that shot he used the dribble to get closer to the rim. And when he was at the rim – with the attack or moving off the ball – Brandon took contact and finished over the Australian length. Brandon scored 16 points on 7 of 9 shooting.
Noah Pagotto of AUSA Australia (6’7 2023 forward from Australia). Noah’s activity and understanding of how to move off the ball and use his body to finish is at the highest of levels. This is a future West Texas A&M scholarship talent who had his future coaches watching him and against an undefeated team, Noah scored 18 points and gave his opponents their first loss of the year. The Fury and others could not keep Noah from getting in the paint with cuts or with attacks leading to scores or leading to the foul line where totals climbed.
Mason Parker Mason Parker PG Troy | 2025 State MI of Michigan Goonies (6’0 2025 point guard from Tory HS). Mason is a point guard playing up and with good reason. His feel for when to deliver the basketball and do it in a comfortable way for his teammates instantly stood out to me. In addition, the shooting touch is something that I really liked from Mason because he gets good lift, he’s quick into the lift and his release is picturesque and quick. Throw in his intensity and focus and this is a player that college coaches have to start looking at when it comes to running their team.
Ben Shaffer Ben Shaffer 6'0" | PG Wayzata | 2024 State MN of Real Phenom (6’0 2024 shooting guard from Wayzata, MN). Talking Ben again because I think Ben really has a chance to step into a great role for the Trojans next season. He hit four threes against the Heat making five of seven shots scoring 16 points total. But his contributions were more than that. Loved his chatter on defense seeing what was going on with a play and calling it to a teammate on D. He also passed the ball setting up shots for teammates in simple ways such as a quick reversal or a lead to a cutter, but he also timed out passes within the Real Phenom motion offense that led to attempts and ultimately five assists. I think Ben has a chance to have a great senior year for the Trojans.
Nick Speiser of Michigan Goonies (6’4 2024 wing from DeLaSalle). This is a 20 point per game guy regularly at the 17u level and it comes because Nick can come at teams from so many different angles. Speiser has a quick release at the arc so any player that is slow in the closeout, or late in the rotation, he’s getting an open look. The 6’4 shooting guard is also explosive with his multiple step run and when he gets a step at the rim he’s one of the toughest players I saw all weekend to try and contest. He’s got bounce, strength and a level of body control that could make him a scorer in many ways. One game is not enough for me to know Nick’s skill level, but if that skill level continues to improve you have to like his future.
Brody Wishart Brody Wishart 6'2" | SG Buffalo | 2024 State MN of Real Phenom (6’3 2024 wing from Buffalo). I’m not quite sure what type of player Brody will be in the long run but after seeing him three times this weekend I think he has some qualities that could give him a chance to get to a higher level than others at his spot. Brody has some bounce, and he has some body control on the move that a lot other players just don’t have. He’s a different player than his brother Calvin but there is some of that some juice, that same confidence on the move. Brody hit three threes against the Heat and if that jumper continues to go up percentage wise it will open up a lot of opportunity for Brody.
