OTR King of Spring: Upperclassmen Standouts

If I had to describe Olvera, I would give him the nickname u0022Mr. Unselfishu0022 as he is never worried about his stats as much as keeping his teammates involved. Jaxon is one of the most willing playmakers I have seen in the state of Texas this AAU season and will only continue to get better playing with an established and well run program like Team Temple. Olvera is also great at using a variety of dribble moves to get by his defender to the rim at will and excelling in the pick and roll game with either keeping the ball or dishing to the big man in the post. His vision is superhuman, always knowing where his teammates will be on the floor and never unwilling to give the ball up for a better look. Despite a huge size disadvantage playing against JL3 EYBL on Sunday, Reed found other ways to impact the game besides scoring the rock. Mac finished the game with 6/7 assists and also was the leading rebounder on his team, coming away with 9 boards on both ends of the court. u0022Little Macu0022 as he is called, is well respected and admired by his teammates as well for his ability to lead on and off the floor as well as keeping his composure in pressure situations. Reed has gained some notable interest/offers in recent week and will only continue to add up as the grassroots season keeps progressing. I was able to grab my first glimpse of Barnes' play last summer and I knew immediately that he would have enormous potential as an unsigned senior, displaying that skillset this weekend and coming up clutch for his team in multiple game time situations. One of the things I like most about Eldric is that he remains collected in the heat of the moment! Whenever his team needs a bucket, they know they can rely on this young man to go and get it done. whether it be shooting off the dribble or driving to the basket and getting a tough contested layup off, plus the foul. Barnes possesses an efficient jumper and will make the defense pay for sagging off. Jacobsen displayed a great looking, three point jumper that was basically impossible to block for the competition because of his height. Daniel also excels rolling to the basket or spotting up on the arc in the pick and roll game and this allows his team to feed him the ball anywhere on the court where he can score from all three levels. He also came in clutch on defense for his team as his wingspan allowed him to get several blocks, pinning the ball at the basket and coming down with the rebound, starting the fast break for his team. Mr. Jacobsen has proven to be a great pickup for this EYBL squad that has definitely used his height to their advantage and dominated opponents on all spaces of the court.
