With College coaches in attendance from big name schools including Florida State University, Rutgers, and Navy, these electrifying 17u athletes did not disappoint. Over the weekend, we were able to see high-level playmaking, shooting, and defense. Let’s take a look at some of the exciting Virginia athletes that I was able to get eyes on.

Hendrix brought a physical presence to the court this weekend, resulting in multiple offensive boards and self-drawn fouls. On multiple occasions, we saw Hendrix give an extended effort in the paint when scrapping for rebounds. With the ball in his hands, we saw Hendrix knock down the pull-up jumper off-the-dribble over tough contest from the defense. When attacking the rim, Hendrix attacked with great physicality, often leaving the defense no choice but to foul. Hendrix did a good job of staying in motion and relocating when off the ball to keep himself available for a pass.
Daisaun Perkins
Daisaun Perkins
Throughout the weekend at Marquee Hoops DC Jumpoff, Perkins used his speed and pace to create an advantage over the defense, resulting in shots at the rim and deep paint touches. Perkins did a good job of hustling to beat the defense down court in transition for fastbreak points. When attacking the paint in the half court, Perkins always initiated contact first to draw a foul on the shot, which led to a few trips to the free throw line. On the defensive end, Perkins made disciplined closeouts to shooters and did a great job of containing ball handlers.
Lambert gave extended hustle and effort on both sides of the ball throughout this past weekend. Lambert was a determined rebounder as he consistently crashed the glass to come up with offensive rebounds in traffic to keep the possession alive and generate second chance points. On the defensive end of the ball he operated with a high motor and great energy. He did a good job of staying with a defensive possession after multiple shot attempts for the opposing offense.
Highlights
Pruett operated with great defensive awareness throughout Marquee Hoops DC Jumpoff. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard has great positional size and knows how to use it. He was able to hold his own while defending the post as well jumped a few post entry passes leading to fastbreak opportunities. Pruett was active on the glass as he pulled down a handful or rebounds in traffic. On the offensive end, Pruett kept the ball in motion, he distributed the ball in an unselfish manner but was still able to generate points for himself on his own by being aggressive when attacking.
Highlights
Bryce Watlington
Bryce Watlington
At 6-feet tall, Watlington was active on the glass all throughout the weekend, generating second chance points, extending offensive possessions, and ending defensive possessions. On the defensive end, Watlington did a good job of closing out to shooters and staying with ball handlers on their attack. He chopped his feet with arms out on closeouts and slid his feet with ball handlers on drives. Watlington showed his beyond-the-arc scoring abilities as he knocked down catch and shoot three-pointers with confidence and a consistent form.
Corry played the big man position to perfection over the weekend. On the offensive side of the ball, Corry did a great job of sealing his defender off to receive post entry passes. When attacking out of the post, Corry was adept at initiating the contact to draw the foul on the floor or at the rim. On the defensive end, Corry put on a phenomenal Performance. He stayed on the ground on pump fake and didn’t jump until the opposing player left the ground. He played with a high defensive IQ to rotate in help defense and meet players at the rim out of help defense situations.
