Updated 2029 Rankings: Top Prospects in the 540/434/276

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>We recently updated our class of 2029 rankings in the state of Virginia, going to 100 prospects from across the state we believe will be players to keep an eye on moving forward. Obviously the list is very new and will change plenty over the next three seasons, but for now here's a look at part two of some of the top young prospects in the Central/Southern/Western areas.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#36) [player_tooltip player_id='3538934' first='Kam' last='Waller'] | 6'0” PG | VES</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Waller played a decent role for VES as a freshman, but coming off a big summer he should be a player that takes a major jump going into his sophomore year for a talented VES group. The 6'0” lead guard already has good size and is likely still growing, he is quick and shifty off the bounce allowing him to get to spots and create space to make shots from multiple levels, he is good in ball screens and sees the floor well as a playmaker, and he can make plays defensively using his quickness and instincts too.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#38) [player_tooltip player_id='3570310' first='Landon' last='Terry'] | 6'4” SF | Patrick Henry</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Terry was a Second Team All District selection at PH last year, and looks like one of the more intriguing young prospects in the Roanoke area to watch for in the next few years. He's already standing 6'4” wing long arms and is likely still growing, he is a fluid athlete who thrives in transition and is a good finisher around the rim, the lefty has a smooth looking stroke and can drill it from deep, and he has a ton of upside on the defensive end of the floor as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#42) [player_tooltip player_id='3539414' first='Andrew' last='Maslaney'] | 6'1” PG | Western Albemarle</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Maslaney is set up for a big sophomore season at Western Albemarle after three of their top players left the program, and he's shown he's ready to step up and be the next in a long line of college prospects from Western. He's a natural athlete who thrives in not only basketball but football and baseball as well, can knock it down from deep with good range and consistency, he is a sneaky athlete who can finish at and above the rim, and he has a knack for making winning plays as well.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#48) [player_tooltip player_id='2733205' first='Justus' last='Ferrell'] | 6'5” SF | St. Michael</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ferrell had a very impressive freshman season for a very good Saint Michael team, but this summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2226248' first='Boo' last='Williams'] and in the scholastic live periods he showed he's ready to take a big jump and has a lot of tools and upside for the next level as well. He already has great positional size on the wing and may still be growing, he can fill it up from all three levels both off the catch and off the bounce, he is a good athlete who makes plays at the rim and in transition, and he has the tools to be a lock down perimeter defender moving forward.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#58) [player_tooltip player_id='3244002' first='Kris' last='Woods'] | 6'1” CG | Miller School</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Woods transferred to Miller School and reclassified to the 2029 class after being a standout at Eastern Mennonite over the past couple of years, and the extra year should do him well as he can continue to grow and develop. The 6'1” combo is super talented for his age as he's a good athlete who thrives in transition with his speed, he can drill it from deep off the catch and off the bounce, he is a good finisher around the rim through traffic, and he can make plays for others as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#61) [player_tooltip player_id='3539480' first='Preston' last='Deese'] | 5'9” PG | Wilson Memorial</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Deese had a good freshman year with Wilson Memorial showing his ability to run the show and be a primary ball handler, and he had a big summer showing a lot of upside if he grows and continues to develop. While he's only 5'9” he has a lot of grit and toughness to the way he plays, he's quick and shifty off the bounce to get by defenders and collapse the defense, he's a high IQ playmaker with feel and vision, and he can score it from deep and in the midrange with an array of floaters and pull-ups to negate his size.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>#80) [player_tooltip player_id='3721896' first='Karson' last='McCoy'] | 6'2” CG | Prince Edward</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":3631413,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/05/McCoy-Karson.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/05/McCoy-Karson.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-3631413" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prince Edward has always been a sneaky spot for athletes of different sports, and McCoy is the son of a Longwood girls Assistant and is a player that is worth the trip to Farmville to check out over the next few years. At 6'2” he has good positional size and a strong frame that is likely still growing, he gets downhill and finishes well through contact at the rim, he can spot up and knock it down from deep, and he has great instincts and feel on both ends of the floor as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
