Over 100 teams battled this past weekend, each with their own set of tools. Let’s take a look at some of the best athletes I saw in the 16u division.
Deshawn Williams
Deshawn Williams
This past weekend, DeShawn Williams put on an impressive performance with his ability to break down defenders off the dribble and get into the paint. At 5-foot-10, Williams has a very explosive first step to go along with his tight handle. We saw Williams get into the paint and make the right read multiple times. In transition, Williams gave good effort to finish off fast breaks and running with teammates to clean-up missed shots at the rim.
Cameron Hammond
Cameron Hammond
The big man played a very efficient game at Boo Williams Sports Complex this past weekend. At 6-foot-5, Hammond displayed great hands when catching quick dump off passes in the paint or getting in the passing lane on defense to disrupt opposing offenses. Hammond did a good job of positioning himself around the paint on drives to the basket from his teammates to receive easy shots at the rim. Hammond was very active on the glass as he picked up multiple offensive rebounds and was able to put them back up quickly for an easy two points.
Joshua Feagin
Joshua Feagin
Feagin was a standout player to me due to the physicality that he brought to the court and the fight he gave every time a loose ball was up for grabs. Feagin, standing at 6-foot-6, has a strong frame which he uses to lock down the paint and deter shots at the rim on the defensive end. When Feagin has the ball in his hands, he can use his strength with his back to the basket to bully opposing big men under the rim as well as finish through tons of contact. When fighting for rebounds, Feagin has pogo-stick-abilities and an extremely high motor to get off the ground multiple times while battling for a board.

Elliott shot the lights out this past weekend at Boo Williams Sports Complex. We saw Elliott knock down tough three-pointers off the dribble, off the catch, and on the move. When operating off the ball, Elliott consistently relocated following a pass and moved with the ball handler to keep himself open and available for a shot. He also displayed his touch in the lane by attacking a closeout and converting on a well-defended runner with a good touch. Elliott also did a good job of getting out in transition to finish fast breaks at the rim. On the defensive end, Elliot looked like a solid point of attack defender as he sat on ball handlers’ crosses to pick their pockets and initiate fastbreak opportunities.
Jamal Carroll
Jamal Carroll
When the ball was in his hands, Carroll kept his patience and made the right decision. He did a good job of using the pump fake and attacking closeouts to get the defense out of place, forcing rotations, typically leading to an easy assist to a shooter. When bigger or slower defenders switched onto the perimeter, Carroll had no issues with breaking them down off the dribble to get into the paint. Carroll knocked down tough three-pointers, one of them with the defender completely smothering him.
