The event is the unofficial kick-off to the Spring Live period, as it takes place the week before college coaches are eligible to come out and lay eyes on players. The tournament-style event features both boys’ and girls’ teams ranging from 8U – 17U. This exposure event will feature heavy media coverage, including Prep Hoops and highlight company Balldawgs. It will serve as the perfect time for several players to get on the recruiting radar. Here’s a look at players to keep an eye on during the event.
Excited to see Schweitzer, the former LV Middle School Combine standout, has continued to develop, and proved to be a productive player during the high school season. He’s one of the better shooters in his class, however it’s his playmaking and other areas of the game, im intersted in evaluating this weekend.
Highlights
Knoll is one of the highest ranked players participating in the event and for good reason. The lefty, may pound for pound be the toughest player in the state, keep an eye on the 5A champs defensive versatility and shooting this weekend.
Baletic has been a bit of a mystery, so watching him this weekend will be a treat. The 6’7 forward got a ring with Durango this season. Looking to see what areas of his game his improved since the end of his high school season.
Highlights
Hutchinson may be the most intriguing player at the event. It’s fun to watch how the ubber athletic forward has gradually transitioned from a 5 to a 4 to a stretch 4. I’m guessing he’ll spend time on the perimeter, he’s already shown that he has ball skills, while averaging over 12 points per game and shooting 42% from the three point line for a Meadows team that reached the 2A state title game. Loking to see how much more refined those skills are, as he could be one of the more entertaining players to watch this weekend.
You have to watch Hayes if for nothing else, to learn about what a signature skill is. He’s one of the best pure rebounders in the state, with a relentless attitude and motor. He’s simply the type of guy that as they say can go get it. Previously a interior player, I’m looking to see how far out he’s stretched his game.
Nickerson will be running with Blessed To Ball this week. The wing is an exciting player who I’ve had the opportunity of watching both during the HS season and grassroots. He’s a scoring guard with finishing ability, a top 90 player in his class, he should be ready to show out this weekend.
