There are many shooting guards in this class, making it more likely for some of these players to get overlooked. Here are my five underrated shooting guards for the 2024 class that will look to increase their production next season.
Kipnis is a straight shooter from the three-point line that rarely misses if you give him open space. He needs very little room, in general, to get off his quick release making it difficult to defend and run out to contest. Not only can Kipnis shoot but he has an all-around game too. He uses his 6’2″ frame to see over the offense to make plays for his teammates, crash the glass, block shots, and strip defenders if you try to size him up. I see no reason why Kipnis won’t skyrocket up the rankings next year.
Magner is everything you want out of a shooting guard. He can defend multiple positions and moves laterally very well. Magner’s shooting ability allows him to shoot over anyone with his 6’4″ size and quick release. The finishing ability for Magner is where he scores most of his points as he can hit you with a variety of moves down low while also making fast cuts down the lane from the top of the key or baseline. He’ll even make some beautiful sharp-cut passes that can surprise the defense. Look for Magner to take a big leap in production next year.
Hinshillwood is a smooth left-handed player that can shoot well beyond the arc. His catch-and-shoot shot from three is his bread and butter as he is always looking for it. He’s got a great pull-up midrange game and can put the ball on the floor to finish through contact. Hinshillwood’s numbers may not pop out to some but he has all the makings of a breakout player and should look to do so with more opportunity and minutes in his senior season.
Highlights
Schwartz is another lefty with a smooth game that can shoot the three ball but prefers to score off the catch-and-shoot. He can get to the rim with a nice quick crossover and finish through contact or hit you with the euro-step. Schwartz is already a solid defender moving his feet well and forcing ball handlers to pick up their dribble. If he can work more at that end of the floor then he will no doubt have a jump in production next season and should look to climb the rankings.
Sams is a player that loves to play fast and get out in transition in the fastbreak setting. He can score in a multitude of ways with his inside and outside shooting game. Sams has quick and tight handles that allow him to get to any spot he wants to on the court. The finishing game around the rim game is strong for Sams as he can score with both hands with no problem at the rim. I can see him being an excellent two-way player next season with more minutes.
