Kameron Hanvey (Gibault Catholic – 2023)
Hanvey had quite a week starting with his big performance in the supers and took it into state. The 5’10” senior is a high IQ guard that makes sound decisions as a passer. Gets others involved especially when they are on the move. Can score as well as he was effective as a three level scorer with nifty finishes, mid-range pull ups, and threes. In the semis he had 14 points.
Austin Henard (Cornerstone Christian Academy – 2023)
Liked what we saw from Henard in their semifinal loss. The 6’0” senior has a burst with the ball showing smooth acceleration off the bounce finishing with craftiness around the hoop. Also got out in transition for several conversions. In the semis he had 17 points.
Dylan Slavenburg (Scales Mounds – 2024)
This 6’8” five man came off the bench to provide production for Scales Mounds in their semifinal victory recording 7 points and 7 rebounds. Rebounds well in his area, runs the floor, and hit a corner three.
Thomas Hereau (Scales Mounds – 202
Gritty lead guard that has a knack for getting to the foul line at a nice clip. Went for 11 points in the semis. In the championship he shot it better from beyond the arc going 5-7 from deep for 24 points
Kam Sweetnam (Tuscola – 2025)
Smaller guard at only 5’8”, but we liked what he brought as a shooter making some shots in a semi that nobody was connecting from deep. He had 8 points vs Scales Mounds.
James Niebrugge (Teutopolis – 2023)
The T-Town shooting guard was the only Wooden Shoe that could get anything going in the semi as he had 8 of their 17 points. Niebrugge is a two guard with solid strength that is best at driving and scoring in the paint. Crafty finisher that finds lanes in the paint. Should help out a small college program.
PJ Chambers (DePaul Prep – 2024)
Chambers is a name that is emerging in the 2024 class. The 6’2” shooting guard is a lefty that has nice size at 6’2” with scoring pop. Floater game, capable spot up shooter, and can take it off the defensive glass end to end. In the championship game he had 8 points.
Rye Pirtz (Bloomington Central Catholic – 2023)
Pirtz stepped up big in the semis living at the foul line where he hit 9/10 for 9 points. His ability to get to the line was key in their win to advance to the finals.
Owen Kyhl (St. Ignatius – 2023)
Kyhl is a tough as nails shooting point guard that stepped up for Iggy during the second half of the season. He is a plus shooter and that is what he did in the semis hitting a pair of them for 6 points.
Sam Driscoll (Benet – 2023)
Driscoll is a left handed two guard that stepped in to play a huge role for Benet after Kunka’s injury. The sharp shooter immediately gave them a lift in the semis where he hit three triples for 11 points.
Andy Nash (Benet – 2023)
Carthage commit shot it well from distance throughout the event. Good sized wing that can be an effective catch and shoot threat at the small college level as he had 12 points in the championship.
Jasper Ogburn (Moline – 2023)
Ogburn was the starter who wasn’t talked about much for Moline throughout the season. He does the little things from his combo guard spot playing tough defense and using his grit to score in the paint as he had 10 points in the 4A championship game.
George Wolkow (Downers Grove North – 2023)
Wolkow will be playing baseball in college or in the minor leagues next year as an MLB draft choice. He came on strong for DGN late in the post season as a 6’7” post that can change the game with his energy and finishing ability down low like he did in the semis for 6 points.
