On Saturday March 4th I attended the 12th annual Areacodes Spring Showcase hosted by Chad Groth at the Phhacility for all ages in HS plus 8th graders.

He had 8 teams of around 7-8 on a team for 60 total players. Many brand new players were on hand and some trying to gain some exposure and competition.

Here were some more of the Sophomore and Freshman standouts of the showcase

[player_tooltip player_id='1574517' first='Jaylin' last='Ideran'] Camelback (Pictured)

A smooth and long pure point guard. He has a tight handle and good speed with the ball in his hands. He has quick feet and hands to be a tough on-ball defender. He reads the court quickly and will throw the dime and he bursts into the lane with a nice first step.

[player_tooltip player_id='1482217' first='Khalil' last='Lias'] Phhoenix Prep

A long combo guard has grown nearly two inches. He takes long strides to get into the lane and can throw it down impressively above the rim. He handles the ball well and can make some plays plus will hit the three point shot. His stock is trending up.

[player_tooltip player_id='1834650' first='Jelani' last='McCoy'] Dream City Christian International

A Canadian who gets downhill like a man possessed. He can dunk on the break effortlessly with really long strides. He just likes getting to the rim. And although he favors his left hand, he is still very effective. He is quick on the ball defensively with his athletic gifts.

[player_tooltip player_id='1589731' first='Oluwatomisin' last='Ayodele-Osho'] Dream City Christian International

An Australian stud is very hard to keep from getting into the paint. He uses his left or right hand just as effectively. He has incredible speed to touch the paint and not many are as fast as him.

[player_tooltip player_id='1482211' first='Noah' last='Gloor'] Higley

A very polished undersized scoring lead guard. He is super quick to get to the basket with layups and euros and is faster than you think but he can shoot. He can stop and pop triples in quickly with a fast trigger and stay balanced. He should take over the reigns the next three years.

[player_tooltip player_id='1633057' first='Zeshawn' last='Gould'] ALA-West Foothills

An athletic freshman combo guard handles it well and can make plays for his teammates. He is athletic like his brother and will defend his position. He will hit shots and get to the basket. He will have a bigger role next year for the Guardians.

[player_tooltip player_id='1834658' first='David' last='Shaw'] Agua Fria

A pure point guard with a high feel for the game. He was a newcomer to me and he plays the game from the neck up. He can throw up the court passes with some pinpoint accuracy. Defensively he closes out to shooters and will contest shots. The lefty plays the right way and can shoot it from the perimeter. Once he gets stronger, he should breakout.

[player_tooltip player_id='1150825' first='Iyayi' last='Osunde'] Dream City Christian International

A strong combo guard likes getting downhill. He has a nice burst utilizing his quick first step. He scores on contested layups and euro steps. He has active hands to rebound and makes plays for others.

[player_tooltip player_id='1839805' first='Aveon' last='Williams'] Casa Grande

Williams puts the power into power forward. He has an incredible football build and he comes with real physicality. He has already been offered by PAC-12 schools for football but definitely holds his own on the hardwood. He has good hands, he rebounds the ball at a good clip and scores it around the basket. He will occasionally step out and hit from the perimeter but his bread and butter is in the paint. It will be interesting to see if he sticks with hoops.
