First Team

Player of the Year: [player_tooltip player_id='1367400' first='Josh' last='Sanderson'], Grand View Christian (2023)
Stats: 21.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 1.6 steals, 45.1 FG%, 41.5 3P%, 85.6 FT%

The Player of the Year selection in Class 1A this year is difficult, but we'll give the nod to Sanderson, who led the Thunder to the state championship with his electric scoring. A quick guard with the ability to get scorching hot in the blink of an eye, he locked this honor up when he dropped 24 points in a quarter in the semifinals.

[player_tooltip player_id='1167671' first='William' last='Kiburis'], Gladbrook-Reinbeck (2023)
Stats: 26.1 points, 8.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 2.8 steals, 1.0 blocks, 62.8 FG%, 36.5 3P%, 76.6 FT%

Kiburis has the ability to post a triple-double on any given night. A 6-3/6-4 lead guard with a tremendous feel for the game and a much improved jumper, he was outstanding for the Rebels this year, helping lead them to the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='1167704' first='Tate' last='Haughenbury'], North Linn (2023)
Stats: 16.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 2.6 steals, 53.6 FG%

Haughenbury didn't post the eye-popping numbers that some of the other first teamers did, but the 6-5 forward was the leader of a Lynx team that was once again among the best in the state. An efficient, athletic forward who can score at a high clip around the rim, he really improved as a playmaker this season, leading the team in assists and showing improved ball handling.

[player_tooltip player_id='1167715' first='Casey' last='Gardner'], Dunkerton (2023)
Stats: 19.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 9.4 assists, 2.2 steals, 44.8 FG%, 35.4 3P%, 86.1 FT%

The state's leader in assists, Gardner is a pure point guard with exceptional court vision and passing skills. He values possessions and limits turnovers, and has steadily improved as a scoring threat over his four high school seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='1167703' first='Sage' last='Evans'], West Harrison (2023)
Stats: 15.0 points, 16.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.8 steals, 53.6 FG%, 43.5 3P%

The mulleted man was a dominant force on both ends of the floor for the Hawkeyes this season, helping lead them to their first state tournament win and dominating the glass on both ends of the floor. A physical forward with a non-stop motor, he made his presence known on every possession.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='956871' first='Blaise' last='Porter'], New London (2023)
Stats: 25.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.0 blocks, 52.1 FG%, 80.6 FT%

The future Truman State point guard was excellent in leading the Tigers to the state tournament. A quick guard who can get to the rim at will, he pairs an elite first step with great ball handling and hesitation moves to get by the defense, and he's armed with a fantastic mid-range game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1367394' first='Preston' last='Gillespie'], Dunkerton (2023)
Stats: 25.6 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.0 steals, 1.2 blocks, 62.7 FG%, 72.9 FT%

Gillespie was dominant as a scorer over the last two years for the Raiders, routinely getting to the rim both in the halfcourt and in transition. He improved as a shot creator as a senior, improving his ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim on his own, and he was absolutely dominant as a rebounder on both ends of the flor.

[player_tooltip player_id='956875' first='Daniel' last='Tobiloba'], Grand View Christian (2023)
Stats: 12.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 4.3 blocks, 75.2 FG%

Tobiloba didn't make any of the All-State teams voted on by the IPSWA, which seems like a glaring oversight. While his offensive numbers pale in comparison to some of the others on this list, his impact on the game defensively simply can not be overlooked. He blocked over four shots a game, but it's his sheer presence in the paint as a defender that completely altered the way that teams could attack GVC offensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='956891' first='Douglas' last='Taylor'], Newman Catholic (2023)
Stats: 24.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 steals, 56.4 FG%

The future Iowa baseball player wrapped up an incredible high school career by averaging a double-double with remarkable efficiency for the Knights. A lanky 6-5 wing who gets to the rim routinely, he uses that length and athleticism to dominate on the glass as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='956883' first='Mason' last='Harter'], Wapsie Valley (2023)
Stats: 20.6 points, 17.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.5 steals, 3.1 blocks, 56.6 FG%

Harter had a historically dominant season as a rebounder for the Warriors, pulling down nearly 18 rebounds a game. A mobile 6-5 big man with great hands and soft touch around the rim, he was an intimidating force in the painted area on both ends of the floor.
