Continue ReadingEarlier this week, the nation’s top ranked sophomore took home some prestigious hardware to add to the trophy collection. 6-9 power forward Cameron Boozer Cameron Boozer 6'9" | PF Columbus | 2025 State #2 Nation FL , out of Christopher Columbus High School in Miami was unanimously chosen for the National Gatorade Player of the Year award.
Cameron is the first sophomore to win the National Gatorade Player of the Year award since Emoni Bates in 2020.
Cameron, is the son of former NBA veteran Carlos Boozer who spent 14 seasons in the league making two All-Star appearances.
Earlier this month, Cameron and his twin brother Cayden Boozer Cayden Boozer 6'5" | PG Columbus | 2025 State #28 Nation FL also helped lead the Explorers to their second consecutive state championship defeating Winter Haven 50-48 in an absolute thriller. Other teammates contributed in the state championship run for the Explorers including 6-8 junior forward Malik Abdullahi, 6-3 sophomore guard Benny Fragela Benny Fragela 5'11" | SG Columbus | 2025 State FL and 6-1 senior guard Garyn Bess Garyn Bess 6'2" | CG Christopher Columbus | 2023 State FL . The Explorers also played in some prestigious events this past season including City of Palms Classic, Hoophall Classic and the Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Dallas.
Cameron averaged 21.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, including back-to-back double doubles in the Class 7A semifinal and championship games. The Explorers are expected to also take the floor in the inaugural The Throne which is ran by the National Basketball Players Association and will take place March 29 through April 1 in Atlanta with the games being aired on NBA TV, Fox Sports 1 and FOX.
Cameron and Cayden each hold D-1 offers from Arkansas, Duke, Florida State, Miami and Michigan which we can all expect will increase as they gear into the next two seasons of playing high school basketball.
Cameron will be playing for Nightrydas Elite along with Cayden in the Nike EYBL Circuit with their first tournament taking place April 21 through April 23 in Atlanta.
